Seamstresses Post Here!

I sew everything, from small gifts, toys, bags, quilts, clothes, and curtains to reupholstering a pair of sofas. The sofas were a big job - probably wont do that again for a while.
My latest project was a response to a challenge to get as many textile/sewing techniques into one soft toy. I managed 13 (counting the different hand embroidery stitches as 1).

Joy had a go at dying her own fabric to make her own toy too:

My most recent layout shows my granddaughter wearing the sunflower dress I made her mom as a shower gift:

I sewed the sleep sack they brought her home from the hospital in:

And here's a page about stuff I sewed for myself:

All of which makes me realize I've got a stack of photos of finished sewing projects that I need to scrapbook...

@Angela Toucan those stuffed toys are so cool! I can't believe all the fun details you added to yours! Wow!

@angiekey !!!! Wowza! You are a sewing machine!!! That is so cool that you can make so many different items of clothing and they all look amazing! You're making me re-think sewing clothes for myself... it would be so cool to make exactly what you want and be able to fit it to yourself. Clothes I buy never seem to fit quite right! AND I love that you're using photoshop to see how fabrics looks on designs before you even make them. That's brilliant!

Karen, you're so sweet! Thank you for your kind words. I actually re-started my sewing hobby a couple years ago because I couldn't find clothing I liked that properly fit my body. The more I dug into it, the more I learned about how the fashion industry designs clothing sizes against standard blocks, which vary from one brand to another. For example, the average Misses size assumes a B cup. Women's assumes a C cup. Plus size assumes a D cup. Mine is an H cup. I was a DD in high school and my cup size hasen't been that small since, no matter how small my dress size has been. No wonder I could never find clothing that fit properly!

So I've learned how to do a series of pattern adjustments - starting with a Full Bust Adjustment - and now every piece of clothing I wear fits my unique body. And it's amazing just how good I feel about myself when it's time to get dressed to go out!

My most recent adventure has been learning to sew athletic wear. I won't say I've mastered it yet, but I'm really happy with the sets of capris and tanks I've made, and each set is better than the last.

All that to say, YES - you should pull out your sewing machine and give it a try! Check out Craftsy for video classes on fitting and pattern adjustments... it's 100% worth it.

That's so awesome that you can make stuff to fit your own body and feel awesome all dressed with YOUR clothes. I love that! I am currently in a horrible state of having a broken sewing machine (it's 40+ years old and was my Mom's and starting smoking when I was making masks a month or so ago). AND I tried to buy a new one and can't even find one to buy. Apparently everyone's sewing masks right now, so all the lower end machines are sold out. :giggle
