School Start |Pad Patter 8.17

My kids start Sept. 1st. Over here every city starts around the same time, usually within a few days of each other.

I'm not sure cause I do not currently have little ones, but one day the train has plenty of seats and the next it's overflowing with raucous teenagers. Then I'll know.

I have no idea when school starts in my area exactly but usually it's near the end of August for most counties around here. My kids have always been unschooled which means learning all the time, no start or end dates.

I've noticed how much the dates vary. I was surprised to start seeing people posting first day back to school photos on Facebook over a week ago! I'm still immersed in summer. When I was growing up, and even in the 5 years I taught primary grades in the 90's, in southern California, school always started soon after Labor Day.

My boys both go back on August 29th. All the public school in Michigan go back the day after Labor Day. (sept. 6th).

Curiosity... for those that have year round school... how does that work? Do you like it better than the 10 month on and 2 off? I can't wrap my head around it, but it seems like it might be a nice thing to have more breaks throughout rather than a chunk of a summer! (Though, I do like summer!)

3 of mine start Monday, one at a University in GA and two locally. The other university starts the 29th. It is all over the place! And don't even get me started on trying to coordinate the days they have off or are in town for a family vacation!!!

As a parent, I think I'd love it! More opportunities to be out when it's not just hot, and/or everyone else is out. In Utah, we had a fall break when I was in high school that was great. None of the surrounding states had it, so if we went out of town, not every kid was off.

We started on the 15th. Our district adjusted our schedule so the HS semester ends before the winter break in stead of the end of January. We'll end the week after Memorial Day. I'm so tired! Summer wasn't long enough.

The kids at CSUs moved back to their dorms yesterday-ish. My son starts class on Wednesdays. The UC kids on the trimester schedule start mid September.

Schools started for Julia on the 11th of August (way tooooo early this year!) and Elizabeth had her very first day of college today. Sniff.

My son starts the day after labour day ( sept 6th) and he and I are dreading it. He has autism, severe anxiety and sensory issues and is starting Jr high. Im afraid they wont "get" him and he will be asked if hes just being lazy or not trying. Its happened a tiny bit in 5th grade. He has closed hips and super flat feet too, and HAS to take a year of gym. Even in elementary school that said he could do better, run more.. come on!! He would tell them it hurts to run. To him, this felt like they were saying he was not trying. I would home school him, but I have my own learning disabilities. If I could find a retired teacher to teach him, Id keep him home!

Um yes. That is WAY early! Do you get out super early too? Or just have a longer school year?

@meterr I'm so sorry Terri! It's hard when we have to send our kids out to others. I hope he gets understanding teachers, and that the school is sympathetic to him.
