As I sit at my desk, looking over at my kitchen table student, I can't help but think of some of my school experiences. So, I thought I'd ask you about them too!
As always with a fast five, answer as quick or in depth as you like!

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite?
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why?
3. What was your favorite grade?
4. Did you like school?
5. How many schools did you attend?

For those in school, good luck! For those with no students and out of school, Congrats!
My semester doesn't start for a few more weeks, and I plan to enjoy the freedom.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? My Algebra 2 teacher in 10th grade. He used to say "well kiss a pig" all the time. He also taught us to "pay the toll when you cross the bridge", i.e. carrying something to the other side of the equal sign makes the positive/negative sign change. And one semester the really cute guy (a senior) sat next to me in class (assigned seats).
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? math - because I was good at it and so few girls were. I got to hang with the smart dudes - some of whom were cool. And I got to have classes with older students as I was a year ahead in math. One year there was just 1 other girl in the class besides me.
3. What was your favorite grade? That is a hard one, but probably senior year of high school.
4. Did you like school? yes.
5. How many schools did you attend? 3 elementary, 1 jr high, 1 high school, 1 college, and 2 more for post-graduation courses

And free info -- history was my least favorite subject until I homeschooled my kids. Then we enjoyed history. Turns out history textbooks are boring but other history books, not so much. I am glad to be done homeschooling but I do miss how much I learned right along with the kids.

I started tutoring math about 6 years ago to various students. My current student is taking Trig/Pre-calc this year. Yee-ha! Let the fun begin.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite?
Mrs. Malloy introduced me to poetry in high school. She also allowed me to take an independent study/Creative Writing II class in tandem with her Creative Writing I class since the school didn't offer one, be a co-editor-in-chief of the school's literary magazine, and awarded me (along with another student in my class) the senior English Award. She allowed me to explore my creativity and be the person I wanted to be but was too worried about being judged for.

2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why?
English, of course, closely followed by Social Studies/History. I had a solid B/B- average in my Math & Science classes (as I got As for completing my math homework and Cs and Ds on the tests) all through HS.

3. What was your favorite grade?
I didn't have one. Elementary school & high school were definitely better than middle school but I'm so old now that it all melds together in my mind.

4. Did you like school?
I loved school. I'm a great test-taker/short-term memorizer and was very quiet & obedient so school loved me, too.

5. How many schools did you attend?
I was in the same school district K-12 so just three: elementary school from K-5, middle school from 6-8, and high school from 9-12.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? Of course, 7th grade math. Why? She was my mom!
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? Does band count? I didn't really have a favorite but I did have subjects I didn't like.
3. What was your favorite grade? Can't really say I had a favorite, but probably senior year because it was the end of one period of my life and the beginning of another.
4. Did you like school? Yes for the most part. Some years were tougher because of teachers/subjects but they weren't horrible.
5. How many schools did you attend? 1 school district, but multiple buildings within the district. Blume (kindergarten), Centennial (1-3), Blume (4), Centennial (5), St Paul-Blume (6), Blume (7-9), Wapak high school (10-12). Class grades got shifted among buildings while I was going through school because of the size of the classes attending. My class was the largest going through the system at the time and in 6th grade, 2 classes (about 60 students) attended in the basement of a church while the rest of our classmates were at Blume. My class as freshmen had over 300 students and graduated 252. We were the largest class to graduate until the next year... the parochial school closed after graduation 1974 and those students were then attending the city schools. That added about 70 students per year. Had the class of 1974 joined our class we would have graduated over 330 that year. These days the school district has approximately 3000 students in K-12. Oh yeah, homeschooling was unknown back in those days!

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? I can't think of one above all the others, but each year I certainly had favorites. The ones who respected students and led us in interesting discussions and activities were my favorites.

2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? I think I usually preferred my language arts classes over math, with science and history somewhere in between. I'm good with words -- I love to read, I am a good speller, I love to write -- and not strong in math. Though I have fond memories of Algebra in high school because the teacher was very good at explaining things and I felt math was easy first time. My pleasure in science and social studies classes depended on the teacher; I love the topics but some of the teachers were engaging and others were blah and I hardly remember them.

3. What was your favorite grade? Never thought of that before. In elementary, I liked school more and more each year. I hated junior high. And then again in high school, it got better every year. I remember feeling kind of bummed to be finishing high school just when I was getting comfortable and I regretted not having gotten more involved in extracurricular activities and some different classes.

4. Did you like school? Overall, I was a very conscientious student and loved school. In my childhood diary you can find words like "Today's the last day of school and I'm sad!" and "Yay! One more day until school starts!" And high school was hard work but I enjoyed a lot about it. I loved college too.

5. How many schools did you attend? One for K-6, one for 7-8, one for 9-12, and one for university (bachelor's and a teaching credential).

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite?
Mr Key - taught me art and let me be myself rather than complaining about me being different
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why?
Maths and History. Maths because it was easy, and I still find history fascinating
3. What was your favorite grade?
non really
4. Did you like school?
In the early years yes, but once my undiagnosed autism started to be noticeable and I felt different and was punished for it - no.
5. How many schools did you attend?
too many

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Yes, Ms. Emerson.
Why were they your favorite? She was excellent, upbeat though demanding, and I had great respect for her. She was our Choral director and we always went to State competitions!
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Should have been Art. But our teacher was blatantly partial to "abstract and modern styles". And I was more of a realist back then .
Why? She gave me bad grades. said I wasn't "edgy" enough.
3. What was your favorite grade?none. Just loved high school
4. Did you like school? I loved being in the annual musical productions. I earned my membership into the Int'l Thespian Society ( over 1K hours) I cried when each year ended. lpl
5. How many schools did you attend? K-12: 4

Oy vey! Wish we'd been neighbors- I wasn't diagnosed as dyslexic til late in high school. Math was my nemesis- as I always inverted the numbers and formulas were absolutely torture to me! I'd get hives trying to do Algebra. Had to have a tutor. Coulda been you, LOL!

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? Yes, Miss Cox, High school Geography, so encouraging and motivating.
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? Biology, love plants and animals and the human body
3. What was your favorite grade? Don't really have one
4. Did you like school? Loved school
5. How many schools did you attend? 2 (primary school and high school).

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? Yes, Miss Bronnenberg - she was just the coolest teacher ever. One time, a dog followed me to school and she felt so sorry for it that she let me keep it in the room all day.
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? My favorite subject was English Lit. My teacher studied every summer in England and could speak in "Olde English" and I fell in love with Shakespeare and Chaucer because of her.
3. What was your favorite grade? 3rd grade because Miss Bronnenberg was my 3rd grade teacher.
4. Did you like school? Yes, I loved school.
5. How many schools did you attend? I attended 4 different schools from 1st through 12th grade.

Been actually reminiscing about school lately with friends putting up old school memories up on Facebook. I didn’t actually have an amazing time at school for a number of reasons.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? At high school I had a fave teacher but I’m not sure they actually taught me per say. At University it was my disability studies lecturer - she probably taught me for about 1/3 to 1/2 my degree
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? At high school it was anything to do with computers......no surprise there! At university, I enjoyed most of my subjects though there were a few that weren’t as enjoyable
3. What was your favorite grade? Hmmm, maybe year 4 when I changed schools but the teasing I endured throughout my school years sort of soured my over all experience I’d say
4. Did you like school? Yes and no.
5. How many schools did you attend? 4 (2 primary, 1 intermediate and 1 high school) then 3 post secondary institutions (am at the 3rd now studying a Graduate Diploma)

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? Yes!! Mr. Bolling, my high school Spanish teacher. I had him for 3 of my 4 years of Spanish. He was upbeat and fun and really took the time to build relationships with students.
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? Math, always math. Geometry particularly. I just love it and figuring out all the cool ways numbers work. It's always just come really easily for me.
3. What was your favorite grade? Hmmmm Not sure I have one. Maybe senior year because it was pretty easy.
4. Did you like school? Meh. It was fine, but I've never wanted to go back. College, yes. High School and below, no way.
5. How many schools did you attend? K-1 in Atlanta. 2nd-middle of 4th here in WV, 1/2 4th-6th in VA, and 7-12 back here in WV. So 4 places, 5 schools if you split Jr high and high school.
And then 2 different colleges living on campus, two community colleges, and a couple of universities through distance ed.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite?
I was homeschooled from 6th grade on and I do remember all of my elementary teachers from K-5th but none of them really stand out to me.
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? History and geography. I love learning about other cultures and places and history just fascinates me.
3. What was your favorite grade? Didn 't really have one. I know I very much disliked my 2nd and 5th grade teacher...they were mean.
4. Did you like school? Yes...except for 2nd and 5th grade. I've always enjoyed taking classes, learning and studying.
5. How many schools did you attend? Private until 5th and then homeschooled.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? Yes, many. The things they had in common were clear, high expectations from their students & a willingness to answer questions/explain difficult concepts along with expecting respect from students and giving respect in return.

2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? Again, yes, many. Math all the way up to advanced trig & calculus, Spanish, AP US History & AP European History (even though that teacher was a dud), Chemistry, along with most of my college courses particularly all the Psychology classes. The absolute best class was an Independent Study on Jean Piaget in graduate school where I designed the class and every week my major professor and I sat in his office and discussed the readings for 2-3 hours.

3. What was your favorite grade? A tie between 11th & 12th grade

4. Did you like school? Loved it!

5. How many schools did you attend? 6 total: K-4 in New York state, 5 & 6 when we moved to PA, 7-9 junior high, 10-12 high school, one university for undergraduate degree, another university for graduate degree.

1. Did you have a favorite teacher? Why were they your favorite? Not really. I was lucky that I didn't dislike any of my teachers
2. Did you have a favorite subject? Why? Science, Art
3. What was your favorite grade? I don't have one
4. Did you like school? Mostly
5. How many schools did you attend? Two elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school
