I don't play an instrument but I drew some of the characters from my son's favourite chapter book with black and white sketch pictures for him and he was in utter disbelief that I could draw (and really well in his opinion - they weren't hard or detailed, mostly doodly) and then acted like it was the best thing I'd ever done and would not stop talking about it (made my day).
And I made a layout this week of my daughter in a last minute school dress-up (thank you google, fonts and Photoshop) and it reminded me that not all parents have photoshop skills! I'm not really a sew-er but I can make a decent Easter hat with hot glue. I guess these moments have given me a bit of elevated status for a bit in my kids eyes!

@bellbird Those are really cool moments!

Hmmm... mine may be my tacos. First off, let me admit, they are nothing special... ground beef and a seasoning packet, but for some reason Clara's friends from elementary school LOVE them. It started when she took leftovers as her school lunch... they all wanted a bite. Any time they came over they wanted me to make tacos. They all go to different high schools now, but a couple of the girls are coming over on Halloween and they've asked for tacos for dinner (one girl even texted Clara asking for the recipe last week... LOL!). I'm not sure whether to be proud of this or embarrassed! I make so many other more involved things... they insist on the tacos! But it does make me a "rock star" in her friend group!

My daughter told me I was the best mom ever tonight because when she came down stairs to ask what was for dinner (it just us 2 at home tonight), she said she had a good idea. I said, I bet my idea is even faster and better. She said, Maybe - say it at 1-2-3. "Papa Johns" we both said. And so we did. Yummy! (pizza delivery for those who don't know or have the Papa).

And she won in Rummy, which we played while eating the pizza. I am sure that helped.

LOL I don't know whether I'd be playing this up if I were you and claiming there was a secret ingredient! it's obviously love!

I would never consider myself a great cook but my kids love my casseroles cooking and I've been teaching my granddaughter kitchen skills and it helped to get her a job as a line cook. So, maybe I'm not so bad after all LOL.

I do think I'm a rockstar at handling emergencies. I tend to be very clear-headed and calm when everyone around me is freaking out.

For me, it's when I take time to paint something - like once I painted a cave from our favorite family vacation spot, and another time I painted a horse for my daughter's room. I really don't do it often at all - maybe once a year? But when I do, they all make a big deal about it and talk about it for days and days.

@bcgal00 Rae, I'm in the Stay Calm club, too! It does come in handy! I have saved 2 of my kids from probable death (drowning in both cases). When everyone else was panicked or frozen, I felt like my emotions all went away, and my brain just kicked into auto-response... it was super weird... too bad I can't think that clearly all the time! :giggle

@RebeccaH
Wow...that's scary about the drowning. That's how I react too. The emotions come later but at the time I just go on auto pilot and respond.

I don't think this makes me a rockstar, but I make a mean alfredo sauce, and that's what both my children want for their birthday dinners . . . chicken alfredo over fettuccine and steamed broccoli.

I will try any drawing, painting, crafty thing. I might not succeed, but I'm not afraid to try.

I'm organized. I keep myself organized and most of the time, my family.

I'm the chair of my local Traffic Safety and Parking Committee. I recently asked that all crosswalks near schools in our city be painted high visibility ladder style. My 8yr old thinks I'm a rockstar, especially when I talk to the mayor. He loves to tell people about my crosswalks. Also, he just started dance class taught by a family friend. This guy recently won a contest on Good Morning America & has a single on iTunes. So yeah, 8yr old's a little starstruck & thinks it's so cool I know him.

The 6yr old thinks I'm awesome when I bring home M&M cookies from my committee meeting.

Rock star status around here would be when I agree to make chocolate milk shakes. But my 11 year old tells me I'm the best mom ever like 800 times a day, without fail when he gets out of the car at school and when he goes to bed at night. Either I'm pretty amazing, or he has low expectations :giggle

This is something I have never, and may never ever, figure out! I was one who would just pull off the stickers and move them around... seemed like my best option for success :giggle

My friend Amy and I pried one of the corner pieces off, then rearranged and reassembled the pieces. Our parents (who were having a dinner party with other adults) were so impressed by our ability to complete the Rubic's Cube. :whistle

Obviously, genius is in you! I say, Way to think outside the box! ;)

DD loves Rubik's cube stuff (there's a few sorts) and watches these guys on youtube do them in seconds - i will never have THAT rockstar moment

In junior high, I could solve Rubik's Cube easily. They even did a story on me for the school newspaper. Darned if I remember how to do it today lol

@AnneofAlamo , so cool - you are my rockstar as well!!

My kids, esp the big ones, are surprisingly enjoying my crochet skills, pokemon and minions being the latest. I have given away more to their friends than we have kept and the orders keep coming in - although my 20yo daughters boyfriend was unsure what to make of the latest offering -
minion1.jpg

We call him her minion because he runs around after her every whim - he is lovely and she isn't too demanding, just lots of driving... On balance he liked it though (or at least that's what she told him to say :lol)

that is so wonderful that they appreciate your crochet talent! @KarenW the minion looks spot on! you are obviously a crochet rockstar!
