I'm late popping here to today, but I've been working every day on doing some purging around my house. I saw this on social media earlier today and thought it was a fun question

I think mine would be jackets/coats or maybe old cassette tapes hahaha I can't seem to get rid of them. I might also say little screws and nuts and things because you never know when you might need one.

What do you own a ridiculous amount of?

Good luck with the purging Jan! We've been cleaning out our basement and I didn't realize how much junk we'd accumulated!

As for me, I own a ridiculous amount of shoes that I never wear. :hide

plastic kitchen storage containers.....oh and of course the obvious one, digi scrapping supplies

It used to be children's books!

Now not a ridiculous amount of much since the great purge of 2019 when I moved into a small apartment. But quite a few white tops and shirts (can you ever have too many?) and I have always had a weakness for cushions and soft furnishings!

can i just say 'all the above'? seriously, i'm there with you on cassettes (and no we don't have a tape deck anymore that i know of - i did get rid of a few handfuls of cd's though, does that count?), still have kids books i can't part with (plus many of my own books), plastic containers coming out our ears and i've paired down shoes like several months back and then bought more... and my husband would say any amount of cushions is too many cushions, there's 5 just on the one sofa behind me... and there's 3 more sofas and more armchairs in our house... he would also say i have a ridiculous obsession with lamps and vases and i have waaay to many of those but switching out decor is way cheaper than renovating or replacing bigger stuff

if 3 fish tanks in one room and 3 bird cages in another are ridiculous, then add that as well

I own a ridiculous amount of:
- Yarn. One large closet, two smaller closets plus bags here and there and everywhere.
- Books. But that's all three of us. A total of 24 book shelves (Billy from IKEA). I'm not sure how many, thousands....

If TSHTF, at least we will be warm under blankets I've made, reading.

Jigsaw puzzles although I pulled a lot of them (35) that I have already done and packed them up to be donated. Pens and highlighters... have a Sterilite sweater box full of unopened packages of them.

Toys come immediately to mind ... I love toys, bought my kids and grandkids way too many toys. They are all adults now and in spite of getting rid of lots of toys I still have multiple bins in the attic ... Brio and Thomas the train, Fisher-Price Great Adventure Sets and Rescue Heroes, F-P dollhouse and a zillion accessories, American Girl and Bitty Baby, STUFFIES ... it's awful.

I told my granddaughter (27) over the weekend that she needs to go through her stuffies and choose a bin full to store here ... the rest either need to to her house or be purged. She started whining and I said, if they aren't important enough for you store now, then they aren't going to be important enough for you to keep when I die, and I'm just not storing future trash.

Plenty of other stuff too. My basement floods so it's just a giant storage area, and then there's my attic ...

Leggings. I really should go through them since I have my favorites and they are the ones I always use. Some I haven't worn in years.

Oh definitely craft supplies! :giggle BUT!!! I use a ton of them too, so I don't feel too bad about it. Lol.

Also, t-shirts. I have a huge stack, but mostly only wear my favorite off the top of the stack. I have been meaning to go through the stack so there's more room on that shelf on laundry day.

Mostly books, clothes I never wear, digital scrapping supplies. Of course I am one of those who thinks you can't have too many books and could live in a library. I laughingly tell my husband if they ever sell the downtown children's library that I want to buy it and live there. There's a fireplace with two comfy chairs in the front with tons of shelves and big library tables upstairs + offices in the lower level which could certainly be converted to living space and a small drive where one could park a car. Ahhh... dreams...

My teenage self would be shocked to hear me say this, but I have too many books. Back before I purged my thousands of children's books (not so ridiculous considering I was a classroom teacher and had children of my own) my husband also thought I had a ridiculous number of bookcases.

But to give a more unique answer, I also have a ridiculous number of screenshots. I take multiple screenshots daily. It's a way of taking notes of things I want to remember and creating memorabilia. It's not that much different than taking photos, really. Screenshots are just photos of what I'm reading, watching, or doing on my phone or computer. Most days I have more screenshots than photos. They all go into my digital journal.

Here's a typical example, my photos folder for June 24. Of the 15 files, only 4 are photos. The first 3 are videos of the 3 Zen Color pages I did that day, the screenshots of which are in the middle row. The four screenshots between the coloring videos and pages are from a protein calculator thing I did. The last screenshot is of a recipe I made that day.

I just recently did a shoe purge, and man, it was hard!!!

My family is notorious for taking things out in the plastic storage containers and not bringing them back.
Yes, how could I not mention digi supplies!! I've been at this for 18 years, I've got quite a bit lol An EHD crash purged some of the stuff for me years ago, but I've still accumulated a lot more!

Oh gosh, I forgot about all the children's books we have. I just told my younges the other day that I need to figure out what to do with them all.

I still have a bunch of CDs as well! My husband would agree with the cushions lol

My mother's house would be similar to yours...books and yarn!! You must have an amazing library!!

Ohhh how could I forget pens!! So many of them!!

My mom has an attic full as well. May be some valuable ones in there. I was a purger of toys when my kids were growing up, so we don't have many. I asked my daughter to come go through some of her stuff last year and she never did, so I just got rid of most of it.

Leggings. I really should go through them since I have my favorites and they are the ones I always use. Some I haven't worn in years.
I need to do a leggings purge as well.

I have going through my craft stash on my to-do list. I need to use more of it! My closet is on the list as well. So many shirts I never wear.

That sounds like it would be an amazing place to live!! Wonderful dream!!

That's such a great idea. I very seldom think to take screeshots, but it is a fabulous form of memory keeping.

Cameras. I love vintage film cameras and have a lot of them.
I have several of those as well. I can see 7 of them from where I'm sitting lol

Books...stuffies....paper scrapping supplies (from paper scrapping days)...digi scrapping stuff...photos taken...recipes to try....cds....legos!
I have all of those except the legos. None of my kids ever really enjoyed them.

Legos
Scrapbooking supplies
Cookbooks
Fitness apparel
Do you have a favorite as far as fitness apparel? I need some new things!!

I need to declutter children's books again ... there was a woman from our Girl Scout service unit collecting them for a low-income elementary school in DC, but I think I've already given her the books appropriate for those students. I might be able to take a bunch to our neighborhood elementary school to be used in the teacher's personal classroom libraries. Funny thing is Chase has asked me to keep a couple of series, so I naturally will. I've got Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames books from my childhood and my mom's.
