Happy August everyone!

Last week I attended two different reunions. The first was a family reunion with my dad’s side of the family. The second was a high school reunion for my graduating class.

When’s the last time you attended a reunion?
Do you like them or dread them?
Have you ever planned a reunion?
What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends?

When’s the last time you attended a reunion? 20 years ago, am giving this year's a miss too.
Do you like them or dread them? I hate them
Have you ever planned a reunion? Nope, likely never will.
What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends? we have bbq's (braai's) and those are amazing!

I hate the high school ones. I’m ok with my dad’s family ones because they’re fun and I like everyone there.

Yay for bbq’s! Thanks for sharing your word for them - always learning something new! ;)

When’s the last time you attended a reunion? Last summer I attended a family reunion for my mother's side of the family.

Do you like them or dread them? I love the family reunions. I've never attended a high school reunion because I'm pretty sure I would hate it.

Have you ever planned a reunion? No

What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends? A get-together at a cottage on a lake

we have a family reunion next week. Family reunions are the only form of reunions we attend.

When’s the last time you attended a reunion? Class reunion, 10 years ago. Family reunion, 3 years ago

Do you like them or dread them? Love family reunions, hate class reunions. In fact, my 50th is Sept 14th and I don't plan on going even though I live in the same town. I told some classmates that I may stop by after the dinner. Those classmates are the ones that I want to see and we had lunch together in June. There is one person on the committee that is adamant that they have a DJ at every reunion even though many of us have asked not to have one but he insists. The DJ's always play the music too loud even though they are repeatedly asked to turn it down and being our age, hearing isn't always that great anyways so conversations are very hard with the music in the background. At the last reunion, very few people got on the dance floor so a DJ is a waste of money IMO.

Have you ever planned a reunion? Yes. I was on the planning committee for 2 class reunions with the 25th being the one that the committee really worked hard to get people to attend. Those who did attend loved it. 3 years ago my cousins were stopping in Ohio on their way to Michigan from Florida and asked if I would get some of the family together. It was at my house and was a very enjoyable 4 hours with everyone. Very casual, BYOB and some finger foods.

What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends? No fuss, casual get togethers are the best!

I’m glad you love family reunions. :)

There was a pond/lake at my family reunion last week so we paddled canoes around and caught salamanders. It was so fun!

Good for you planning some reunions!

I’ve never had a DJ at a class reunion but I agree that it would be too hard to hear with one present.

We've always had them. It wasn't bad 30 years ago when we were all young because a lot of us would dance. But as we've gotten older, we like to actually sit and have conversations. Not really able to do that with a DJ.

I need to send my RSVP back in the next week and I will be telling them why I'm not coming. The only one I missed was the 45th and that's when I was going through my dental issues. So for me not to come with living right here in town should tell them something.

I’m impressed you’ve gone to so many! I’ve only been to three; my friend is always in charge so she begs me to go lol

Well, I'm old. This is our 10th reunion! Considering that I only lived out of town for the first one, it was easy to go since it only takes 10 minutes to drive from one side of town to the other. There are people I would like to see but they never come back since they live out of state.

I agree it’s much easier the closer you live. Mine was only 20 minutes away so not too bad.

When’s the last time you attended a reunion? Lord, I have no idea. Maybe my class reunion 15ish years ago. We were supposed to have one this year, but it didn't happen. We haven't had a family reunion in even longer than that. Our family reunions these days tend to be funerals, as sad as that is.

Do you like them or dread them? They are ok, I guess. There are probably a lot of other things I'd rather be doing LOL

Have you ever planned a reunion? No, I haven't and probably never will :giggle

What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends? I much prefer just to see people/families individually for a cookout or dinner or trip together...something like that.

When’s the last time you attended a reunion?
I think the last reunion I went to was a whole school reunion for my primary school (ages 5 to 11-12 roughly but I was only there from 8 3/4 to 11 1/2 years old) possibly in 2003 when the school was 50 years old

Do you like them or dread them?
Indifferent, I'd probably prefer a specific year or cohort type reunion where I have more in common as the one I went to I was only 16 so super young in terms of the whole group that attended

Have you ever planned a reunion?
Nope, though I think there's a few milestones to consider in the next few years - December 2025 will be 20 years since my original class graduated high school and the following year will also be worth celebrating too (due to health issues during high school I chose to do an extra year of high school at the end). Then in terms of university - Late 2025 marks 10 years since we finished our degree and May 2026 marks 10 years since graduation.

What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends?
Honestly just small group settings are my fave whether that be a meal or going to see a show or something. I'm not one for large organized adventure activities or anything to do with alcohol where it's the main event

When’s the last time you attended a reunion? 2019 my 40th HS Reunion
Do you like them or dread them? Love them
Have you ever planned a reunion? Yes... 2000 and 2001 All Class reunions and 2005 for our 25th HS reunion
What are your favorite ways to get together with old family/friends? Recently in April, my BFF & her husband along with me & my husband rented a cabin in Tennessee and had a nice 4 day vacation together.

I am sad... Saturday Aug. 3 (tomorrow) is my 45th HS reunion and this year I am unable to attend. (The first reunion I am missing.) I really wanted to go, but this year with different things going on, both my BFF & I are unable to go back to NY for it. I am going to enjoy from afar seeing everyone's photos after the fact. I did assist the reunion committee even though I am not attending, so I was still a part of it.

We’ve had a lot of family funerals lately too. I think that’s why my dad wanted to do the reunion last week because his siblings are all older than him. I don’t force my kids to go to funerals but I do force them to go to reunions and my cousins are the same so it was fun to see all the kids and grandkids for once.

I haven’t heard of reunions for primary school. I think it would be fun to recreate class pictures from those years (I have all my old class pictures).

I think you’re the first to love them! I’m sorry you have to miss the one tomorrow but glad you were able to vacation with your BFF in April. I was hesitant to go to mine last week because only 2 of my 4 friends went but it was fine with just the 2 there thankfully.

Monica, I am still very close with some of the elementary school friends .. FB kinda makes it easier being we have school groups ... I am in charge of the Memorial for our school too.... way back in the day when ClassMates was bigger and better I was the point person for the school so I guess the alumni stuff is in my blood :) For me my best friends to this day are friends I have had since childhood. My BFF and I have been friends since birth and another very close friend is from Nursery school (age 4) so yes those friendships have been the closest for me. Many of us have moved to other states etc. but when you see them again you pick up where you left off. I used to also go to work reunions up in NY too... those from 40 years ago when I first started working in an office are special too, and some of those I am also still friends with through FB and phone calls and letters/cards :) When I go back to NY I often see a few of them. I am also still friends with some teachers and old bosses, so I guess I don 't like to let go of my old friends :) Hugs!
