Printer Woes

So far, not yet but I'm sure this year will bring some kind of tech update. Our printer is relatively new and seems appeased by the passionfruit sticker we stuck on it so we shall see.

Please tell me more about this magical wide format printer though. I want to know what I should be dreaming about next.

I'm on the fence with my printer right now. It seems like I could buy a brand new one for what it costs me to replace all the ink LOL
I also would love to have a new Silhouette. That's probably my next big purchase. I'm currently still using the very first edition and it's really showing its age.

I’m always wondering when my printer is going to call it quits lol have fun with the new one Esther! My kids got new phones for Christmas but I prefer my old tech.

I haven't got a working printer & to be honest I don't print enough to justify the cost either so I use either the local library as my first choice or local office supply store as the back up option though I don't necessarily agree with all of their policies around printing & scanning

It's a epson ecotank 8550 that I happened to catch on sale. it prints up to 13x19. Suppposed to be amazing for photos and of course I need it for hybrid projects. I do still have my December daily to do. I have the photos. LOL.

I'd look into eco tank when you are ready to upgrade. If go silhouette, avoid the pro one. I received it as a gift and it doesn't get used as much as my cricut joy, cameo or maker.

I fight with my printer on every scarce occasion that I need it. And @IntenseMagic I hear you on the cost of ink. Plus I guess my printer is aging and it’s getting harder to find the right ones. I had to use my old MacBook to scan something because I didn’t feel like wading through all the updates to see what I really need to get my current one fully connected.

The ecotanks are the way to go. My old one I had for over 5 years and I only bought more ink 1-2 times during that time.

Totally agree! The ecotanks save hundreds in ink costs. I have an Epson but glad to hear canon makes one too.

Thankfully my current printer is still behaving quite well. I definitely used it a ton to print all my photos for my DYD journal and it did a great job for that. Bonus is that I still haven't had to refill my ecotanks, so that also makes me happy!

@IntenseMagic I'm still rocking my original Silhouette portrait too and it's somehow still working well and I use it A LOT! I had to go look it up... I bought mine in May of 2014! I hope I'm not jinxing it by saying how well it's still working! Lol!

If I were to upgrade anything though I would love a way to print and cut just a couple of elements or stickers at a time. Right now when I want a couple, I feel the need to fill the whole page with other elements so I don't waste the rest of my paper. What I really want is for my printer to have a cutter too. Like a marriage between an Epson printer and my Silhouette cutter. I know they make a mini sticker printer cutter just like that, but you have to use only their paper. I want one step further, I want to pick the paper and have it print and then already know where it just printed and cut that out. I can dream right?

Here's the mini sticker thingie I mentioned... definitely a step in the right direction!

@Esther Wisdom that looks an amazing printer! I still haven't bought a new one myself. I would really like an A3 printer but think I've mentioned on another, older, thread, that I really don't have room to keep one. I mainly want one for the scanning function if I'm honest so I may compromise and stick with an A4 printer/scanner that can scan from an automatic feeder. The alternative is to talk nicely (!) to my ex and see if he would lend me the one which he took when we divorced (A3 with ADF). That way I get the benefit for the short term task of scanning documents and pre-digital photos, but I can give it back to him so I don't have to find a place to keep it long term. I just really, really, hate asking him for favours. He's the sort of person that always wants something in return.

I have this too, that just arrived. I decided that some non screen time is equally as important. As I told @Claire Grantham husband..... lots for RAM but disk space sucks. LOL.

But she works, even in her old age.

Good for you!

I do not have a wide format printer, but the printer I have is wonderful and it works. It’s an Epson with the big tanks. One thing I think is important if you’re printing hybrid is having the paper feed through the back and going straight through. If the paper tray is underneath and the paper loops around this can lead to paper jams with cardstock. My previous printer was an HP and it had problems from dat 1.

That typewriter is dreamy!
