Prayers Needed Please

Oh Jill, what a super scary situation to be in when you are watching your grandkids and have never been around that kind of thing. (There was a boy in HS who used to get them once in awhile on the bus. I always sat near him and it was scary.) I remember the first time you told us about Harper's condition. And so sorry to hear she's still having them. At least it was tied to the illness she was experiencing and you know something else is not going on ... hoping she grows out of them soon like @Danyale mentioned ... but yes, once you become a parent - you never sleep the same again. My Mom always told me that too - and it is so true. Still scary stuff for all of you involved ... but those sweet words our of her mouth must have felt like gold! What a doll! :beat

You two grandparents did good! :goldstars

Oh goodness, Jill, I can't imagine anything more frightening! Thank goodness she is doing well and don't forget to take care of yourself too. Hugs

That is such a super scary situation! Will be thinking about you and your little granddaughter. <3

Scary! I'm glad you had the little blessings of noticing it, and the Red Barn for help! I hope she keeps getting better!

That's so scary!! My 19 year old had a terrible febrile seizure when he was just under a year old. I was panicked every time he had a fever after that. And when my 17 year old daughter was in 3rd grade she had a grand mal seizure and then another one a few months later and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Again, so scary... (She's grown out of it and the medication was tapered off) Soooo.... I'm right there with you with the panic and anxiety and stress of worry. It sounds like your reactions were spot on. Prayers that the ear infections clear up and the seizures don't happen again!! I remember the doctors telling me that as the babies get older the fevers don't send the body over the edge like that. I remember having to double up with advil and tylenol when there were fevers so neither drug had to go its full cycle before I re-dosed. I'm sure your kids know how that works, but if not, tag me. Huge hugs and prayers!!!!

Hugs to you. I remember when you talked about her previous ones. It is terrifying, and I'm so sorry you had to go through it.

Kennedy hasn't had one in 5 years, but I still remember like it was yesterday and get anxiety when I think about those times. Hopefully she will grow out of them as well.

That's so scary Jill. I remember when she had the seizures before and hoped that she'd maybe have outgrown them and have them be a distant memory. I'm so glad that you did everything right and that she's okay now, but it sounds so scary!

Hugs, Jill! I cannot imagine! How very scary! I'm so happy to hear she is doing better, and I hope hat they can figure out how to help her!

Hugs Jill! That must have been so scary. So glad that Harper is ok and responding normally.

It is so scary to see, I know from my own daughter (and I admit to keeping her in our bed after she started having them and she was 8 at the time!). I hope that your DS/DIL don't just accept it as 'just another', but contact the doctor. I know they are often associated with fever/infection, but I think 3 is around the age that toddlers are expected to outgrow that.

I truly hope that Harper doesn't suffer any more seizures.

We visited our granddaughter Saturday (at their house) and noticed that 3 or 4 times she stopped what she was doing and just stared into space - it was for a very short period of time - and then she would resume what she was doing like nothing happened.

I asked our son if they were considering going to have another set of brain scans done - but they said their doctor wasn't concerned - in fact, he wasn't 100% sure it was a seizure that she had had a few weeks ago - as when he did check her, her ears were clear ... and then the rest of the family ended up with the stomach flu. He assumed she just had the stomach flu and "freaked" out because she was in the car and it was dark, etc. I know what she was doing was *not* normal ... I didn't push that issue though! Of course, I can't find anything helpful on the internet (and probably shouldn't use that a reliable source anyways) ... I am really hoping the 2 are related ... but it's been 2 weeks since her febrile seizure and that seems like a long time to still have residual symptoms ...

Oh Jill, it must have been tough to see your granddaughter stop like that on Saturday, and just wonder what's happening! I'm praying that whatever it is, it gets figured out (and quickly), and that you have the strength to support your son and wife as they navigate this.

@JillW , how stressful this must be for you, to live through it and then have questions and to feel like they are not the answers you feel are correct!

I will pray on this right now.

So sorry to read this Jill. It must be so tough when you heart and mind say one thing but you have to honour your childrens' wishes in this. God knows, understands and undertakes.

Oh Jill, I feel for you. you are on high alert (and as you should be! I would be the same way - watching/reading up on it/etc ... 100%) ... and not having any real answers must be so so hard for you. I too hope the 2 were related. Your concerns and worry are warranted ... you saw what you saw ... and you just want to protect her. You are the best of Grandmas. Hugs to you!

That' so scary. What type of doctor are they seeing? It seems like there needs to be more checking done? Those vacant stares can be a form of seizure. Maybe a second opinion? I'll keep praying.

My son has absence seizures where he just stops and stares for a few seconds and then just kinda picks up where he left off. When he was diagnosed -- around age 4 -- it was only after an overnight EEG at the hospital. They are intermittent so often do not show up on the 30 minute "regular" EEG. These seizures tend to be well controlled by medication and can prevent injury from falling or getting hit in sports, etc., so it may be worth pursuing further if there is any ambiguity.

Our DGD had an EEG but it was the short version - and it has been almost 1 1/2 years since - it was shortly after her first febrile seizure. I truly wish they would seek another doctor - but being the grandparents ... it's a tough place to be in - we don't want to be too pushy with our son and DIL ...! My DIL's mom is an RN - so I'm hoping she's been giving them some input as well ... I'm hoping next time we see Harper all will be well with her!
