WHAAAAAAAAT?! I did not know this. I am jealous. I need you to give your former employer my info. Except I live in the middle of nowhere and have young kids (and can't move cuz of DH's job) so basically I will telecommute and be happy to be paid in pens. #nojoke
But back to the OP: I was just at the dollar store today and I didn't see any good pens. Now I'm jealous!

Way back when I had a federal job we had to order office supplies from a catalog - yes, pre-internet. My co-worker/boss used to always say...No, no more pens Maureen! She knew my weakness. Since computers, I've rarely had the urge to over buy, though I had a short lived fling with some Copics but we divorced. lol

Yes I'm a pen and stationary lover too!
But not just any pens. I am specific. Sorry not sorry.

You would never see me use a promo-pen in my house. Because I have pretty and good pens. Pens I choose. The promo pens I get, I save up for school. Because I'm a teacher and there is always someone who needs a pen. I don't use them though. For me I have Frixion pens with ink you can remove by friction, and two fountain pens that I use at school: a black one with black ink and a white one with copper-orange ink. Because I'm specific. lol. I really want to buy a green one with green ink too, but the specific colours of the ink and the pen don't match because the ink is limited edition and the pens from that line are sold out..
Oh boy...

(And yes, I bought one of those huge packs of Sharpies last summer when we were in the US. Just because everyone always talks about them on the internet and they don't sell here. Not that I use them often. But I have them. :)

DD(12) and I just got back from the art store with a bunch of new pens. We bought a bunch of Kuretake Zig brush pens, Kuretake double-tipped art markers, and a water brush for blending.

DD(8) is at Girl Guide camp this week, so me & the 12 year-old are going to take an online course in hand lettering for lefties. She is a lefty, I am not. The results should be hilarious. I will document and share the results.

I also love pens and normally buy at least a couple of packs the beginning of "school" and then another pack right around the holidays (different color ink or sparkly).

I have a granddaughter who is a lefty and she is the only one that we know of on both sides of the family.

i can so relate to the first image! (i am sure you all know the feeling of watching your children use something from your stash of pens and highlighters etc... all my sharpies the kids know are precious!)

They were in the checkout aisle. I like that they usually have more "name brand" things in the checkouts. My daughter saw them and wanted some for school, and I grabbed my own pack too!!!

@kimingvtx Mechanical pencils are awesome! And there is always an abundance of extra lead in the supply cupboard at work. However, mechanical pencil lead, and a couple of highlighters seems to be about all that is in there these days. You actually have to ask an admin to open up the cupboard and give you a pen. So I mostly bring in my own. (@cookingmylife I am so jealous that you got pen choice!)

@berniek I also love frixion pens, and use them for my planner and at home. But, they are banned at work! When they first came out, everyone was using them. But then, people started realizing that over time, and in particular if stored near a heat source, or even a sunny window, our notes would eventually disappear from our notebooks if written in frixion pen. This is a problem, because of federal access to information laws, the public has the right to request a copy of my notes from meetings or on specific projects. Obviously, the public will not be very happy if we tell them we wrote our notes with disappearing ink!
