With both Canada Day & Independence Day coming up I thought I'd ask about your countries patriotic day or days.

Does your country have a patriotic day?
What day is it?
Do you do anything special to celebrate?

Does your country have a patriotic day?
Yes, Waitangi Day which commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.

What day is it?
6th of February - usually falls during the last part of summer as the kids go back to school.

Do you do anything special to celebrate?
Not personally as even though I was born in New Zealand my patriotic ties lean way more Canadian so in that respect I celebrate a few Canadian holidays as well - Canada Day & Thanksgiving. Most years I celebrate with the local expatriate community on the closest Saturday to the holiday in July/October. Canada Day is a pancake breakfast & Thanksgiving is a turkey dinner with pumpkin pie.

Does your country have a patriotic day?
Yes, Belgium has one. It marks the anniversary of the investiture of Leopold I as the first King of the Belgians in 1831.

What day is it?
July 21

Do you do anything special to celebrate?
No, not really. It's just another holiday LOL. But all shops are closed and there are many festivities around the country, but the main festivities occur in Brussels, our capital city.

Does your country have a patriotic day? Yes: Canada Day, formerly known as Dominion Day (yes, that's how old I am: i recall going to see the fireworks on Dominion Day!)

What day is it? July 1st, to mark the passage of the BNA Act (which basically created the nascent nation-state of Canada) on July 1st, 1867

Do you do anything special to celebrate? Typically, at least a nice meal with family and friends. I used to go to Parliament Hill to watch the fireworks, but I'm too old and cranky/creaky to do that anymore

July 4 in the U.S. I used to like going to a big local fair with the biggest fireworks show I've ever seen but none of us in my family feels happy with our country for several years now and don't feel like celebrating it. Plus, since I have learned about how damaging fireworks are to the environment and hurtful to some veterans and many pets, and that drone shows are much cooler, I have lost interest in fireworks shows.

I haven't seen a drone show in person yet, but I've seen some videos. Here are a couple of examples I just found by googling. You can see they are much more interesting than fireworks.

What day is it? July 4th - Independence Day
Do you do anything special to celebrate? Our town has a parade, some downtown events, fireworks, etc. My family usually has a party, we grill out, go to the creek, it's a good time with family and friends.

That's kind of how I feel with my country as well....the last kind of 9 months has not been great thanks to a change in government.

Like others, July 4th for me.

Growing up it was a holiday for my dad and his brothers' families to get together for a picnic and volleyball games. We did that for 15 to 20 years then as the kids started getting married and having families, it got harder to get everyone together.

The Catholic church in my town has their big fund-raising festival on July 3rd and 4th. It starts the evening of the 3rd and ends with the fireworks at 10:30 p.m. on the 4th. It is held at the county fairgrounds here in town and always draws a big crowd. I haven't gone for many years but I can hear the fairgrounds loud speaker at my house at times. I can see the fireworks from my house as well so I just stand in my driveway and watch. That's what I'll be doing this week as long as the weather is good.

July 4th, like others :)

No plans right now. I think maybe we are invited to a cookout at my son's girlfriend's house. My daughter and son-in-law are having a pool party on the 6th. If we don't go to the cookout, we may go to the big party our town puts on every year. There are lots of bands, food trucks, and sometimes skydivers with flags.

I enjoyed learning about a few other countries here so thanks Jennifer.

Does your country have a patriotic day?
Independence Day

What day is it?
July 4

Do you do anything special to celebrate?
I like to celebrate with food so I buy red, white and blue popsicles and candy for me and my kids. Sometimes I buy little fireworks too (pop-its, sparklers, snakes and flowers). Growing up we would sleep at my aunt's house on the parade route and watch the parade in the morning. Lately we go find a spot on a lawn with the cousins and play games until it gets dark and the stadium fireworks go off.

Like others, 4th of July/Independence Day

Growing up out little dead-end street (7 houses) had a parade put on by the kids ... my father would blare Sousa marches on his outdoor speakers and us kids would march up and down the street ... twirling batons, waving flags, riding bikes that we'd decorated with red, white and blue crepe paper streamers, pull decorated wagons with small kids.

Later in the evening we'd set off fireworks.

As adults we'd get together at my sister's lake house for boating, BBQ-ing, and fireworks, but V&S sold their lake house in 2020 and we no longer get together as an extended family. One sister is going to be at her beach house in Bethany, another at the family beach condo in Ocean City, another at her beach condo in Myrtle Beach, and I'm staying home since I no longer have small kids/grandkids who are interested in setting off fireworks with me. :)

I'm in the US, so we celebrate the 4th of July as our independence day. We used to take the kids to our local beach and watch the fireworks. Last year we went out on the lake and watched the fireworks from there which was pretty fun, but took a long time to get back up the river to the boat launch afterwards. Lol. Not sure if we will watch them again this year or not. Since we have a couple days off work, we are thinking of hosting a fish fry on the 5th just for fun.
