Or do you leave it to the pros?

My daughter filled the gas tank of the lawnmower with oil last week. Ugh. That doesn't ruin it, but it does make it not start.

I drained the oil, filled it back up, and changed the spark plug, and got it working again.

Feeling quite impressed with myself today. Plus now I don't have to load the mower in the car. :thumbsups

You go girl! I could never fix anything that had to do with mechanics, etc.

Depends what it is and how much of a clue I have about what to do. lol I used to do computer repair as a job, and I have some fixing of computers and other small electronics since then, when the experience is applicable. I've googled some issues with appliances and such, and occasionally been able to do it myself but if I have any doubts about my ability, I have no problem getting someone else to do it!

I just Googled the manual for my mower and it told me what spark plug to buy and how to replace it. lol

Before that I googled "accidentally put oil in the gas tank of lawn mower" and the answer seemed to be to drain it and change the spark plug :)

I used to never try...just cry.
NOW
YOUtube has changed me!
Both my hubby and I will watch the video over and over and then we kinda jump in.
We took out a wall in our house (had to make a brace, as it was a retaining wall). I fixed our push mower, it had seized. Then he fixed both our washer and dryer from the youtube. I love the people that take the time to show others...so awesome!

I don't own any tools............the ex has all those. Well I have a drill, hammer and one screwdriver, lol. I asked for a gift card to Home Depot for my birthday so I can go buy a small tool kit.

I did a tile class at Home Depot and want to attempt a backsplash in my kitchen, we'll see if I get the guts to do it.

Lord no. I can barely walk and talk at the same time.

If I pulled an Anne and watched a Youtube video telling me what to do, like, 37 times in a row, I *might* attempt to fix something that could stand to continue to be broken if I failed! :giggle

Lol, Thank goodness for GOOGLE I say! We recently googled how to remove nail polish from leather and wollah, google gave us the answer and the lounge suite now looks as good as new ;)

No no, I'm not such a handy person .I need to be shown over and over again and when I'm not interestedn I forget it anyways.
Good tip on google though!!!

Angie, reading your story, I thought: well, her avatar of Superwoman is really fit!!! :giggle

I hate it when my dh uses MY tools. He never puts them away right and then I can't find the one socket I need or whatever. Grr.

I buy a new 'big' tool for each 'big' project. I have a table saw, mitre saw, router, etc. My latest purchase was an airless paint sprayer. Can't wait to get to work on the basement ceiling and walls. I was going to do the shutters in spring, but then mono happened and it didn't get done. Bah.

I am NOT a handy person. I like to put those things in the "man's job" department :) Of course, my husband doesn't like to think he is very handy either, but in reality, he is much more savvy than he gives himself credit for. I am impressed, Angie, I am pretty sure I would not have even attempted trying to fix the lawn mower. Way to go!!

I could probably figure things out using YouTube and Google, but I just have Joel do it. He already has the know-how. :)

I love to fix things! I'm the handy one around here. I've fixed my washer and dryer (twice), and most everything else around the house. My husband is the creative mind...love him dearly, but he is not handy. He'd much rather call someone, but I am cheap LOL I learned a lot of it when I was a broke single mom for a few years.

Via the help of a cell phone camera and tons of photos sent back and forth with my dad, I recently fixed both the pool "let out excess water" valve and the toilet that kept running. My dad is pretty patient with it, probably because it saves him the 2 hour round trip drive to fix it himself.

Anything that needs fixing I pass over to my hubs. He's very handy to have around ;)

yes. everything but electricity. I don't touch electricity (as in the house wiring)
car- appliances- decoartion, DIY....I do it alll, well not so much these days but I can fix whatever if necessary.... :)

Awesome work!

I am handy with electronics, and troubleshooting that sort of stuff. I could figure out how to put things together, but I'm not sure about fixing them. I can install an electrical socket/light switch... or something electrical related... but that's because my Dad is an Electrician. Lol! I call him a lot! :)
