I second the recommendations for Divergent/Insurgent and the Vampire Academy series.
I haven't read 50 Shades yet, but from what I've heard it sounds similar to two books by Megan Hart that I really enjoyed: Broken and Dirty. They're full of steamy hot scenes, but they're also well-written (IMO). Both books have well-developed main characters and solid plot lines. If you don't mind the sex scenes, I'd highly recommend them.
On the total opposite end of the spectrum I'd recommend the Newsflesh trilogy by Mira Grant. The series is like part zombie book, part political thriller. I'm not into the whole zombie craze, so I picked up the first book, Feed, figuring it would be one of those "eh" filler reads. I ended up loving it.
