Pad Patter: 4/4 - Sewing

My mom basically majored in Home Ec, so she was big into teaching my sister and me all of that stuff, and while I haven't used it as much as she does, I'm glad to have a pretty firm foundation in it.. I've made a dress for myself, some skirts for my nieces, quilts for my boys, a shower curtain, Halloween costumes, and just this past Christmas started a tradition of making matching pajamas for the whole family (something my mom used to do and stopped a few years ago when there just came to be too many of us, what with grandkids and everything). I'd love to have more time for it, and if I had a girl I'd be all over that with the head bands and pillowcase dresses..

I hated sewing when I was younger - sewing and cooking were my two worst subjects at school - I loved woodwork but had to give it up in year 8 because I was a girl (that rule was repealed the very next year!). But I took to sewing at uni - made two touch football teams their very individual shorts that were all worn with pride (I suspect because they were so hideous - but they were unique- perfect for uni).

I then made my wedding dress (Mum hemmed it because I was sick of it by the end) and then when the two oldest were little I made a lot of their clothes. But I don't do clothes any more - they never seem to fit right.

I do enjoy quilting though and hope to do some more this year.

I used to be able to sew at school and I can do cross stitch but haven't for years now so think my limit now is sewing badges on,hemming and buttons

I can sew and have my Mom's old machine, but I'm not great at it and I don't really love it. I've done some quilts and simple pillows, plus little projects for the kids and sometimes repairs on stuff for my family. Whenever I have a project that I HAVE to do, I'll put it off until the last minute.

Sewing is not my forte but mother strongly wishes it were. I can sew a button if I have too & of course I've sewed straight stitches on many scrapbooking layouts. That's about it.

I can sew... but I don't. I have absolutely no patience for cutting out patterns, stitching things together, etc. I made some really cute things in junior high Home Ec, but that was about it. I always get these grand ideas of sewing costumes or something, but yeah, I don't.
I was going to sew a cover for a cushion to go on top of my hope chest, but luckily, I found an easier way on Pinterest. LOL.

And to me, it is actually cheaper to go and buy clothes than to buy patterns and fabric. They aren't cheap around here.
