Pad Patter: 4/25 - Hair Color

i am too lazy to get my hair professionally colored, but i do spray it with john freida's beyond blonde spray (like sun-in! haha!) every once in a while to lighten it up a bit ... i don't have any grays yet, but once i do i'm sure i'll be interested in getting something professionally done. i did try to dye my hair dark brown about 7 years ago, but it didn't look good at all - kind-of a swamp like brown-green! ha!

My hair is naturally strawberry blonde but that is turning more grey. I dye it myself, its red at the moment.

I just had my recolored . . . I told her to take it back to my natural color because I'm clearly NOT responsible enough to maintain my roots. I had been a more red than brown auburn. Now that I'm my natural color again, people seem to assume that I "colored" it darker and the old color was my natural color. Several people this week said it was so different, they didn't recognize me at first. In all fairness, I did get about six inches cut off it too.

we have a terrible curse that runs on my father's side of the family called "early grey hair syndrome". unfortunately i have plenty of those dreaded genes. my 1st greys started showing around 23! so i do get my hair colored professionally ... i am afraid to do it myself. but after reading this & seeing that so many of you do it yourself ... hmmm, maybe i will give it a go one day. it's so expensive bc it really needs to be done every 6-8 weeks or the roots show. bleh!

LOL! We have that same curse in my family. I started getting them early, too.

My hair is naturally somewhat dark, so they always stick out like a sore thumb. I've just recently started having my hair colored professionally, but because I usually have it done pretty close to what it is naturally, I can let it go a little longer than what's recommended between visits. I've tried doing it myself a few times, but I have thick hair, which makes it more difficult. At least, for my uncoordinated self. ;)

I definitely dye to cover up some grey. I'm boring and dye to my natural brown hair color. I usually trade off between doing it myself or letting my hairdresser do it. I always wait too long in between dyes though, so I'm not fooling anyone about the grey!

I get mine highlighted every few YEARS just to lighten it up some and blend in the gray. I have natural strawberry blonde hair so it is not really noticeable when I get it done.

If you have a Sally's (or similar) nearby, do that instead of the box color from the store.. It's much less expensive, and you can buy "in bulk" to save even more.. So long as you're not overwhelmed by too much choice.. My first time in was pretty painful.. ;)

I used to dye my hair in high school and college, usually auburn but I also tried dark brown, black, and bright red. It's been over 10 years since I colored it, but I actually have a hair appointment this Wednesday and I'm getting an ombre dye job. My natural color is a nice medium brown - I really like it but I'm ready to change things up. I've actually been wanting to for a while now but my stylist always talks me out of it. She doesn't want to taint my virgin hair lol!

I'm going to have to check into Manic Panic. I am seriously wanting this...

I need to hurry and do it before I have to get a real job. ;)

thanks amber ... now i'm even more afraid. just the thought of doing it wrong scares me, but i never even stopped to hink about how many colors i'd have to choose from ... will have to bring someone with me for decision making.

I started getting gray when I was about 12 years old but just a streak above my forehead. As you can tell by my photo, I am almost totally gray or as Amanda C says "silver." Thanks Amanda, I live silver so much better.

I guess I've gotten used to it and really have no desire to colors my hair. A lot of 6th graders where I used to teach thought I was older than some of the older ones because of all of my gray. LOL

Haha - sorry Jenn.. that didn't go according to plan at all! LOL.. If I was anywhere near you, I'd totally come! :D
