Pad Patter: 3/6- Hair

I get mine cut every 4-6 months. I have a pretty simple haircut with long layers so I just let it grow until the ends look bad. It's about time for me to do something about the few grays that are starting to show. Any suggestions?
 
People think I am nuts... I drive 40 miles, one way, to get my hair cut. We make a day of it and have lunch out and go shopping. I wear my hair in a very short style - well on one side - and if it gets chopped up, it shows.... so I stick with who I know.
