Pad Patter: 3/3/14 - Odd Socks

I have a basket with all the odd socks in and try to go through it once every few weeks.

Sometimes a pair finally turns up where a sock got missed in a wash and its pair got washed at a later date

so did i ...all 4 weeks i sort it out ....and every time i wonder were these socks be now ...it looks like my machin is eating them

i clicked on this thread after buying each kid a new multipack of socks today, sick of hearing, 'mum, i dont have any socks'

so apparently after reading through these responses. i'm the only one that experiences anxiety about mismatched socks and socks that are missing their mates?! it causes me serious stress - but then i find single unwashed kids socks in so many places around the house, it's a wonder i have any socks in the laundry to wash. We got to about 14 odd socks at one point last year and i swear i nearly had a nervous breakdown. I think statistically that should be impossible even in a house of 4 ppl. Personally, i thought some of them 'matched' but DH goes mental if his socks, even the same basic colour and brand ones, bought at the same time are mismatched because he reckons the elastic wears out differently (whatever), and DD 8y.o. is so particular about socks, the 'fluffiness', the 'tightness', the length, sheesh, it drives me up the wall - gee, i wonder where she got that from. DS 5y.o. would think it was awesome if he could wear mismatched socks but i dont think that's caught on here yet - i can't imagine paying money for socks that don't match!

so i'm assuming then that no one shares the same joy then of finding that elusive missing sock; i'd say it's similar to finding like some beloved lost pet?

I remember when I was younger and people laughed at me for wearing mismatched socks. Totally ahead of my time. ( I like them matched now and pair them up on the line lol!)

Where DO all those socks go? and all the small spoons we eat with regularly? Because those mysteriously disappear, never to be seen again, too. I've tried washing sock pairs in those mesh lingerie bags, but man that's a hassle to get the guys to do.

The socks are in the couch cushions and the spoons are in the trash can.

i have a small storage bin above the dryer. After we've folded & put away all the clothes, any stragglers go in there. First we check to see if its match is already in there waiting to be found. If not, in it goes. Then every so often when the bin starts to fill up, we dump it and do a sort... it's amazing how many times we find matches in the bin once it's full. After they've been in there for so long, they get tossed or given to dogs to tug on.

were not fussy its quite fashionable to have odd socks here but i do tend to buy a lot of black ones as thats all i can wear for work so i stick them all in hubbys drawer and we all grab a pair from there

A few years ago there was an ad on TV that showed that all the disappeared socks go to that beautiful Tropical Island and have a great time there together. I was looking for the ad on YouTube, but can't find it. I'm starting to think I only imagined this.

Nope. I remember an ad like that.
