what do you do with them?

I used to be super organized and each kid only had one kind of socks. When they got low, I'd throw them all away and buy 3 packs of new ones. For some reason, I've gotten away from that and have 1000 odd socks again. I think it's time to strike.

But for now, I keep them in the drawers under the washer/dryer. One slot for each kid. So at least if they get low, they can go to their drawer and find a pair.

Luckily, they no longer care much if they actually match, so they can just grab 2 and carry on. In fact, I recently bought my daughter a pack of socks that was 12 different ones... no matched sets. They CAME mismatched. This is more my speed!

I have a basket with all the odd socks in and try to go through it once every few weeks.

Sometimes a pair finally turns up where a sock got missed in a wash and its pair got washed at a later date

I keep them in a special hamper and go through and match them up once a month.. if the other sock isn't found in a year or so.. I use them for crafts.. like puppets.. or sock monkeys.. so forth

hubby only has one kind of sock, so they all match. my daughter (10) has all different socks, and as long as she can find two of the same style, she doesn't usually care if they match (its her job to match them if she wants them matched). my son (5) has a small bucket I put his into as they come into the dryer and I go through about once a week and match up all I can & put away pairs (he helps) - but he usually mixes them up himself because he wants 1 super Mario sock and 1 angry bird sock, etc!

I have a basket of odd socks that I go through a few times a year. DD has a basket of her own because she never wears matched socks, she just pulls out whatever. I go through DS's once a week or so and match up what's in the laundry room. He always has strays behind couch cushions, under chairs, etc.

On a whim the other day, I picked up a couple packs of dayglow socks for my girls. There are no pairs!!! that is the style?? just pull two out and wear them?
I twitch, they were like
OH MOM!! thank you, these are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome!

who knew?

All 3 of my kids (even my boys!) are doing the non-matching sock thing. Ella will usually still match hers, but she's careful with her socks and they just don't get lost. Strange.

I rarely wear them so that's not a problem for me. All of Eric's are the same kind so his always match.

We recently started buying the boys different socks (I used to just buy one huge package and divide them up) but not they have their own and I can't remember whose is whose. So, I throw the pairs on the floor and let them hash it out.

that is the new thing to walk around with mismatched socks. My daughter can't deal with that. LOL!!!

I keep them for a while hoping that the partner will show up someday - then I give them to the kids for sock puppets.

I keep them in the drawer separated from the other socks waiting for soul mate :) usually it is a story with a happy ending :heartlub :giggle

I rarely wear matched socks and neither does my DD. Ain't nobody got time for that.

DH does his and his son's laundry, so I have no idea what they do.

Mine live on top of the dryer until I just can't take it anymore. Then to the trash they go. Our socks rarely are worth keeping (even for crafts) after a few wears.

Funny, though, my DH puts a big "B" on the top of his socks (for Brad) so the boys don't take them. He gets so mad when he sees one of them with his "B" socks on, LOL.

My DD loves this shop - LittleMissMatched for socks, and other things. Her basket is full of them and it sure makes matching a non-issue :) They even have socks for men haha

I just throw the mismatched ones back in the drawer with the pairs. Eventually, they show up.

same here, but when all else fails, they make make dusting rags - slip over your hand and done

My boys each have all one kind of gym socks for everyday use so I don't have much to match for them. My hubby has a thousand socks. Between running socks, black gym socks, white gym socks and dress socks in a zillion different styles I just can't get them all matched up. I have a separate laundry basket just for his socks and I just chuck them in there and make him go sorting for a pair. I am all kinds of nice and keep his fancy running socks separate on the folding table since he uses those most.

I have pairs, but I usually don't end up with single socks leftover for very long. I just leave it on the folding table and within a week or so the other one usually shows up.

That's pretty funny that mis-matched socks is a thing now. I think I would have loved that as a kid! :)

Yup, separate drawer & every month or so I try to match them up. Sometimes I keep them for too long though & I'm sure they'll never have a match.

Whenever a sock comes out single it goes on top of the dresser. Usually it'll end up with a match since I seem to throw holey socks away every week (I buy the same type of socks for that reason).

I haven't matched socks into pairs in decades. We wash them and they get thrown in sock/undie drawers. As we wear them, we match them up. When we get low, we just buy another pack of socks and throw it in the drawer. I never really know if I'm missing a mate because I always have plenty of black ankle socks to choose. Same for the rest of my family.

Yeah, socks not really something I worry about too much. I like to have them from the same pack but I don't care if they actually match. Which is wierd in itself really. My kids match their socks up (they call it jellyfishing because they look like jellyfish ... and WHY don't I have a page about that?!) themselves so they're much smarter than me. Love the mismatching idea, I remember seeing a Little Miss Matched shop a few years ago but it's gone now, obviously too far ahead of its time!
