How much do you get vs. how much you need?

I sleep about 6 fitful hours a night. Not sure how much I ACTUALLY get, but definitely not enough. lol

But even if I go to bed early, I just wake up earlier. :dizzy

1-2 hours a night. IF that. I usually go 1-2 days with no sleep. i have severe insomnia but the medicine makes me have nasty migraines and feel weird so i dont take my sleeping meds. Usually by the 2nd day ill crash out. The funny thing is that the more sleep i get the less I can function. I am however every easily irritated. I can tolerate alot though. I do read alot LOL so that can be considered my rest. The less sleep I get the more awake and functional I am LOL. im just freaking odd. I have been this way since i was about 12

I'm learning to function on about 6 1/2 hours during the week. We're in bed by about 10, and Roxy's up by 4:30 or so, plus she wants out any time between 12:30 and 2:30 a.m. It's crazy! On weekends, I usually catch an extra hour

i am really trying to get more sleep - i get about 6 hours/night i think - but i really want to get 7 - 8 ... it's hard to fit everything in though and my kids are pretty early risers ... arghh ...

On my regular schedule....I make myself go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 5am. I know I'm in bed for 7 hours but I probably really only get about 5 hours though. I sleep but I don't really rest! That's the part that sucks the most.....no rest!

Carly! That is just bizarre! I thought I needed more sleep. I can't imagine only getting 1-2 hours a night!

I usually get about 6-7 hours depending on how late I stay up scrapping. I probably should get at least 7 and even maybe 8 hours, but that only happens when I can sleep in on Saturday morning.

i think maybe around 7 hours a night? or 8? i'm a sleeper. i don't play nice if i have less than 6.

Before this year, I was usually good with 5-6 hours a night. I've always been an early riser. But it seems like for the last 6 months or so, my body is wanting more sleep. I'm actually sleeping until almost 7:00 some mornings...for me, that is sleeping in and used to be unheard of!

Sleep? Hmmm. I've heard of it. LOL

I'm a lifelong insomniac too. Like Carly, I try to read and rest since most of the time I can't sleep. Right now, I'm probably getting 5 hours a night, which is pretty good for me.

Wow, I can't imagine having 5 or less hours of sleep a night... I would rip someone's head off, I am certain. If I don't stay up scrapping til midnight, I'm in bed at about 11:30 then up at 6:30 to wake up son, then hitting snooze until 7 or so. My salvation is getting to sleep in until about 8:30 on weekends which I can't do right now because of tax season. Once that's all over, the sleep in on weekends makes it all tolerable for me.

My daughter only gets about 4 to 5 a night, if that and functions perfectly well. She's done that since middle school. My son, however, could sleep through a bomb if he was tired enough.

Me... usually 6-7 is good for me! Anything more then that, I feel less energetic. :-)

I definitely don't get enough. I go to bed between 2 and 3 am and am up by 8 or 8:30 am when Monkey gets up. Since she doesn't go to bed until 9 or 10 pm (or she won't sleep through the night), I don't get any time to unwind until after that. With J.'s new work schedule, maybe now I'll get the chance to sleep in a little on Saturday mornings. I haven't done that since Monkey was born 2.5 years ago.

Do you survive on coffee too? or is it just me LOL

i require LOTS of sleep.
during a school week i try to be in bed by 10-10:30. most mornings i'm up at 7am. twice a week i have to be up at 6:30am and it's sheer torture.
i love staying up late, but pay for it greatly every morning.
if given the chance, i can easily sleep in till 9 or 10am.
it helps that my kids are older. my youngest is 7 and my oldest is 15. they ALL also sleep in.
mornings are pretty quiet at our home. until i have to drag them out of bed to get them ready for school.
summers are nice a lax around here. i hate when neighbor kids ring the doorbell before 9am.
and wakes us all up.
ticks me off. the end of last summer i started putting a note on the door asking kids not to come by before 10 am. LOL

I sleep about 5 or 6 hours a night. I'm still not used to getting up early, so it's hard for me to fall asleep! I try to catch up on the weekends - or at least take naps when I can! :)

Wow you guys with less than 6 regularly baffle me... I think I'd die. I am usually getting 7 hrs. 11pm-6am.
Last summer I went to summer camp with my kids as the camp nurse. I don't think I got more than 3 hrs of uninterrupted sleep for the whole first week! I was seriously bleary-eyed and finally got one night of respite which is the only way I made it through! This summer I am going a week and then coming home for two weeks, then going back for a week... that way I don't become a camp casualty!

One cup a day, that's all. Otherwise, I *really* can't sleep. LOL

I'm weird in that caffeine doesn't affect me at all. I could have a glass of Mt. Dew right before I go to bed and I'll fall asleep right away. I'm a little backward. But not in the not-needing-sleep way. I am constantly tired. Even if I get 8 or 9 hours a night, I don't feel like I've really had enough sleep.

I think it is because of all of the weird dreaming I do during the night. I have a very active dream life and some nights it feels like I haven't slept at all. DH woke me up the other morning because I was breathing heavy (no... not in a schmexy way). In my dream, I was in this swimming race, so I felt totally worn out. Crazy.

Kimberlee, we sound very similar. Caffeine doesn't effect me at all, and I constantly dream. Well, I mean, we all dream, but I remember them all and they seem to effect me like you mentioned. I wake up panting if I'm running, wake up scared if it was scary...that kind of thing. This past year, I had the first dream of my life that was so disturbing that I woke up crying, like crying out, crying and sobbing. I actually had to wake up DH with that one and have him give me a little snuggle. Ugh.

I need at least 8 hrs, really and truly if I slept like I need I'd sleep 10 hrs but who has that much time to sleep LOL?
I've had insomnia since Summer of 2010 when my DS left for Phoenix. At first I took Ambien but it made me sleep-eat and walk around the house all night so didn't get much rest. Then I tried Lunesta and it was love at first swallow lol. Doesn't leave me feeling groggy and once I lie down I'm down all night, I have to take a Xanax along with it since my son's accident otherwise I can't turn my mind off but still I love Lunesta.
