I swear I've got a 'Black' Thumb. I think I slowly killed another plant in the living room. So, I'm wondering if you have any plants in the house and are there any low maintenance plants that I should consider getting.

No plants at my house, I feel confident I would kill them.

I have a 20 year record of being a black thumb. Which is amazing considering my mother can grow ANYTHING. If anyone ever gives me a plant, I send it directly to mom. The only thing I ever managed to keep alive was an African violet two houses ago. I had it for about a year.

Black thumb here. :( We normally don't have any plants, but we brought home a poinsettia from church a couple of weeks ago, since they were getting rid of it. It's not doing well, but it was not doing well when we brought it home, so at least we didn't make it worse... :giggle

When I worked, the plants in my cubicle were big, beautiful, and thriving, because at least once a day, whenever I needed a quick mental break I would check them and water them as needed. When I later brought them home, they all died pretty quickly. Poor neglected things. Just too many other distractions at home.

I am another black thumb here, but my sister is a botanist with 10 green thumbs, so she tells me which plants can survive me... so far the golden pothos are about the best ones I've found. They get kind of droopy when they are are desparate for drink and I water them and they perk right back up. Don't get me wrong, I do sometime even abuse those enough that they lose leaves and end up looking pretty scraggly, but it takes me YEARS before I will toss them and get a new one. :)

My sister also made me a terrarium once which is a collection of small plants inside a glass jar or container with a sealed lid. You don't have to water those ever! I did still manage to kill a couple of those plants by not giving them enough sun, but again, that one lasted a good long run for me. :)

I love to garden and grow a bit of everything, inside and out.
As far as low maintenance, easy plants, you can't go wrong with:
Chinese evergreen (virtually impossible to kill)
Aloe (handy to have around, put in a warm spot in your house and water it 2x a month at most)
Lavender and rosemary (yummy for cooking, low maintenance)

The only things I can grow are weeds. Oh and grass will grow in the garden but not where it's meant to be! :giggle

I have 2 african violets on my kitchen windowsill (where I can't forget about them). That's it. The rest all died because they can't talk. The violets remind me of my grandmother, she had tons of them around her kitchen. :wub

Ug I sooo badly want to be a gardener, but I haven't had good luck at all. I kill houseplants. I have successfully grown herbs of various sorts in an aero garden. That is about the extent of my success! When we get to our new house with a porch, I plan to put grow boxes of veggies and also herbs. we will see how that goes, lol.

We have one houseplant that has survived - it kind of looks like the picture Karen posted. It was my grandmother's plant and she's been gone almost 10 years so I'd say the plant is doing really well! I pretty much murdered some herbs and aloe that I tried to grow inside recently. Mom and I have much better luck growing plants in the yard.
