The winter months mean less outside time and more inside. I don't like to see us plugged into computers and electronics, so pull out board games. We do charades, lots of Trouble (easy for all ages) and Monopoly.
We just got a new game:
Hedbabz...was an epic fail in our house

but love Tapple!

Would love to hear some of your favs and warnings of DO NOT BUY this game!

The Game of Life Twists and Turns is a staple in our house at Christmas as is the newer version of Life.

We also like to play a version of Monopoly that is in card form called Monopoly Deal and Sorry Card Revenge. These last two are sold in a card pack (like SkipBo) and you can buy them at WalMart.

Our favorites are: Blockus, Sorry, Uno, Apples to Apples and, most recently, Left-Center-Right, which is great for a large group but also easy and FUN!

Our current favorite go to game is the Head's Up app. It's so much fun and it is hilarious to watch the video replay of the rounds where you have to act things out.

We also love Pit when we have a large enough group to play. Oh and Ratuki... it's a card game.

The biggest flop that we own is the game of Life. I remember loving it as a kid, but we got it a few years ago and it was painful to get through a full game.

We just bought this over the weekend.

Super fun, super cute and there's a cute little panda! I think Heather Joyce mentioned this as being one of her favorite games at one point and we really enjoyed our first game.

This one I'm not such a big fan of, though DH and DD both enjoy it. I think being yelled at my first game for being stupid (not by my husband or daughter but by a friend) didn't help matters...but I had such a miserable time I'm not ready to give it another go. We own it so maybe at some point.

Amazon has a big sale on board games today..I would buy Takenoko for everyone on my list (I come from a family of board gamers) if I hadn't already bought all of them presents..lol. 50% off is an awesome deal!

Haha, for the moment our children are a little too small to play such games. We allready played Uno several times and they have some other more little children games.
But they come from a Belgian firm who makes children series here, I don't think you girls will know it.

I don't know most of the games you are naming, monopoly and uno excluded.

BLOCKUS!!!! WE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had the travel size one and just got the full size one for the family! I am going to look into these.

Sarah, what are the ages for Takenoko?

It's listed as 8+...I bet it would be great for B! And did I mention it's so cute???

We love Blokus.... my 6 year old plays too ... with a little help from time to time.

I love Settlers of Catan... we have the kid version, and I plan on introducing the regular version to my kids this Christmas!

Qwirkle is a fun game, and pretty easy. My kids have the app for this, but I got the board game so we can all play together/live, lol.

We are a card game family... so we play lots of Go Fish, Crazy Eights, Rummy 500, Scat, and we are starting Poker with the boys soon. :)

:)

We bought this game this past summer. Love it!

Anne, if you are looking for a fun different sort of game that you can play with your littles check out Forbidden Island. It's cooperative which means everyone wins or everyone loses. My 7 yo nephew loves this game. It might take a time or two for everyone to understand game play, but it's a super fun family game.

Hehe...sorry I keep adding stuff. I absolutely love board games...it's one of our favorite ways to spend time as a family.

Most of the board games we have are Danish, so y'all wouldn't know them, although one is basically like Pictionary. We need a helper to tell the girls what the cards say since they can't read yet, but we have a lot of fun with it.

Oh, I hate to hear this about HedBanz... I just bought this for my kids for christmas gifts... regular and disney versions. I always give them games under the tree. We love Apples to Apples and Uno. I also bought Beat the Parents but we haven't played it yet (mainly b/c DH never gets to play with us).

Kids love Monopoly but I HATE.THAT.GAME. All versions. Too long and terribly unsatisfying. Just sayin'.

No kiddos at home for us to play games - and our GD is too young. But I do recall playing Monopoly for hours and hours and hours and hours ... LOL. It was fun. At first. :-)

Jen, We love headbandz. Specially between adults after a couple of wine glasses.

Hey Sarah, just wanted you to know I picked up Taeknoko yesterday based on your review, thanks for the tip! Hope the boys like it as much as your family does!

I am terrible at inserting images so this will probably not show. But Rummycup is a firm winner here,. It is sort of like the card game, but with tiles instead, quite competitive (if you ask my hubby lol)

That sounds a lot like what I know of as Rummikub...I have such fond memories of that game. My grandparents always traveled with their copy and we'd always play when they visited. I own it but it doesn't come out nearly often enough.
