Pad Patter 12/15: What are you reading?

I'm currently reading Here Be Dragons.
...and it was a really really hard start for me.
But I know so many of you loved it so I kept going.
I'm on page 200ish on my Nook, and it is just starting to get good.
Are the other Book in this Series related? Or are they different stories all together?

There are 3 books in her Welsh Princes Trilogy, Here Be Dragons which focuses on Llewelyn, Falls The Shadow which focuses on Simon de Montfort, and then The Reckoning, which goes back to following another Welsh Prince - Llewelyn ap Gruffydd. I loved all three, but I think Falls the Shadow was my favourite.


It is interesting, I'm reading Devil's Brood (which is about King John's father, King Henry III) and they present such a different portrait of some of the same characters. This timeline is slightly before Here Be Dragons, and follows King Henry and his estranged wife Eleanor of Aquitaine as they deal with Henry's rebellious children.

I found it very useful to make note of the chapter headings (timelines) to make sense of the jumps in time. Easier to do this in a book than on a Kindle I think.

I've enjoyed every book by Penman. But I haven't tried any of her medieval mysteries. I think what appeals to me is the facts behind the fiction - wish history class was this interesting!
