Do you brave the mall and shop on Black Friday or stay home? Do you shop the online sales? What do you think about the stores that are opening on Thanksgiving night?
for me it depends on the year. i only go if i can go with my mom. i am not about to get up that early and brave the stores flying solo.
this year, no. not happening. i don't even really care all that much to be honest. i've yet to get in the mood to christmas shop. and i'm not planning on buying a ton, so it's really not worth the scrambling and the madness.
my in laws are die hard/slightly crazy about the black friday sales. and the last several years, I have gone with them. Sometimes, it has been just as much about the camraderie as about the actual shopping. This year, I am going to be at my parents house and so I don't know yet what we will do. I definitely shop the online sales too though!!
Yeah, I'm one of those crazies that goes out. My SIL lives abroad for awhile and couldn't go with her mom, my MIL. So I started going with her over ten years ago. Now my SIL is back and we all go together. It completely insane to get up and be at the first store by around 3:00 am and then we stop for cheeseburgers for lunch at 8:30 in the morning. But, I usually have 95% off my shopping done by the end of that day and I save a ton of money, so I call it worth it.
The last few years have been changing so much though. I hate that some stores are opening on thanksgiving night. I cannot stay up all night shopping! So my hubby may have to do the late night stores and I'll do the morning. Best Buy is one of the stores opening at midnight and he wants a TV from there so I guess he'll have to get it. I also don't think the sales are very good this year. I always look at stuff online at www.bfads.net so I know what is going to be on sale on BF and most of the stuff on my kids lists was already cheaper online. I places a couple orders at amazon and Toys R Us yesterday and finished 98% off the kids shopping already. I still have stuff on my list, but it won't take me long to get everything and be back home.
No No No! I'm not a fan of crowds or shopping so it's not at all worth it to me. My DH works Thanksgiving this year anyway so we're doing dinner on Friday instead. I do succumb to some of the cyber sales though
I think Black Friday is out of control! I think it's sad that people line up outside stores on Thanksgiving instead of spending time with family and friends! I've never even gone to any of the sales - usually because I have to work. And I also don't like crowds.
I bought my camera on Black Friday last year online - I think it was from Amazon - and the same camera was on sale even cheaper two weeks later! I think I complained and got a credit. But that has me convinced that a lot of the sales are bogus.
Sigh. No Black Friday here, traditionally our sales start on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas Day) so you guys definitely have the right idea having sales BEFORE Christmas rather than after! I did notice that Amazon UK are having some special Black Friday deals online though so I will be checking them out to see if there are any bargains!
Once my kids were born i really got into BF. I was always getting killer deals on toys. For example I got all the Barbie house accessories for $30. The original price was $120! I would say I'm pretty diehard considering I braved the store alone last year while I was 8 months pregnant. This year however, I'm pretty disgusted with what the stores are doing. I cannot believe that so many of them are opening up on Thanksgiving day! This a big family day for me and if it means I stay home and enjoy it with my family instead of going out a getting a good deal....well so be it. I hope a lot of people feel this way and the stores realize their mistake next year and go back to the early morning sales. i doubt that will happen though.

No Black Friday here either, but sometimes we get to reap the benefits and get sales too. But nothing like in the US. Our "shopping" day is Boxing Day, the day after Xmas. However...I may do some online shopping depending on how good the sales are!!
crowds totally stress me out... it has to be a really really good deal for me to go out on Black Friday... tho, I think my Mom is dragging me out because she wants to finish the Christmas shopping for all of us... usually Wal-Mart has an awesome deal on an EHD... so that might be the only thing we go out for... and the Wal-Mart by them is always empty
Nope. Never have, never will. My mom always decorates for Christmas that day (so now I do, too). I don't think I even realized that BF existed until high school!
My sister has really gotten into it in the last 5 years or so (which is so odd to me considering she hates crowds and hates waiting!) and plans out what stores to hit and in which order and drags my BIL along with her so that they can split up and hit different areas of each store at the same time. I think she would have made a great army general!
Yep, this is me. I've tried a couple of times but it was never worth it. I will go later in the morning - around 10 am or so if there is something I wanted from Target. Otherwise, I stick to online shopping. I grabbed a lot of great stuff last year online.
Meh. I've "done" Black Friday a few times but I'm not a die-harder. I've gone when I've found something that made the crazy worth it. I'm sure if I went with family or friends it could even be something fun to do. Not sure I'll be going this year...need to scope the sales some more, but so far nothing has pulled me in to the "need to brave the lines and crowds" mood.
Also, "meh" to the Thanksgiving Day opens. I don't line up for hours and hours before opens anyway, so maybe it doesn't affect me quite as much as it would those who "camp" for a good spot. But I'm generally opposed to things creeping earlier and earlier and earlier and infringing on valuable holiday tradition time...I'm a grumpopotamus that way. So it does bug a bit on principle..
It will be different this year with stores opening at 10 and midnight the night before. I may end up being off work now so I might go if I see something. I have been doing some online shopping already and with the free shipping or store pick up it has been a lot easier than running around everywhere trying to see what stores have what.
YES! Well we usually do. That's usually when I do all my Christmas shopping. It's just so much fun to be out with my sister. The crowds suck, and I usually feel like I am gonna die but my sister or my mom hold onto me so I won't get trampled to death and we split up (with lists), grab everything we think we want, meet up and sort and then leave. I think we made it through target in like a half hour last year...though we waited outside for like 4 hours hahaha!
I think the sales are poo this year. Nothing is that awesome and it's really disappointing. So we might not go out and I might just online shop at like Gymboree so I get a few things I really want for the kids and that might be it. I am pretty much done with xmas shopping...I just need to get stella one more thing and I need to pick up a few books for the kiddos...but that's about it!
