Ok, this full time job is making my house be more unkept! How do you gals manage to keep the house clean? Any tips?

I don't work outside the home and my house is always unkempt. It's a constant struggle for me.

I learned via
Breaking it down to days, so helped me focus.
I no longer use the system with planners and all, but in my head, I know which days are laundry, kitchen and such.
I also know I have to have lists!
for shopping, meals and such
or I spend the time freaking out over those things I could be straightening my livingroom

oh and a big help is to DEclutter...grab a bag and throw away 10 things in one room, stop, toss it, and smile!

I just want to say that before I started working my house was not winning a clean concert.

Your house is supposed to be clean?!?!?! No Way!!!! Apparently the cleaning fairy has skipped my house for the past couple of months. I work full-time and then on the weekends we have been gone for 8 weekends in a row....about to be 9! I've told DH that if something doesn't give soon.....people are going to think we're 'squatters' in our own home.

When you find the answer, please let us know. And if you find that cleaning fairy please let her know that we're in Danger mode here. :)

I suggest putting on blinders and scrapbook ;)

I don't clean half as much as I used to and I'm ok with that. I don't like clutter so do try to put things away as I use them rather than leave them lying around but when it comes to dusting, vacuuming, window washing, etc.....I do let that stuff slide a bit. I try to get a few chores done while I'm cooking dinner i.e. load/unload dishwasher as I'm waiting to for something to cook, or squirt cleaner in bathroom and then after dinner wipe it up. I fold laundry and it sits on the counter in the laundry room. I grab a handful here and there throughout the day to sort and fold, and then when I go upstairs from my office, I bring some to put away...by the end of the day I've put it all away without having to take a block of time to fold and put away. I find that cleaning in small spurts works better for me. I can find lots of blocks of 5-10 minutes but thinking about spending an hour or two cleaning makes me run to my scrap room and shut the door :)

It's a hard to thing to keep up with. I try to do something everyday, whether it's folding towels, sweeping, or putting something away. I try to do the dishes everyday and everyone makes their beds each morning. Those two simple acts help our house look at least a little cleaner. But honestly, people are constantly spilling some type of food on the floor, leaving things they forgot sitting around, or tracking something in on their shoes. We do the best we can and try to make things are mostly tidied before we head to bed, but you know how it goes. Everyone has their activities, or we have busy weekends, or dinner gets on the table late, or whatever. We do the best we can, but it honestly may never look spotless or well-appointed...;)

I love reading I'm not the only one in the "NEED A CLEANING FAIRY" boat.

Brew. It does seem I spend all my time cooking and doing laundry. Mind you, Bianca does her own laundry under supervision of course.

I clean sparsely and badly - that's it...

As long as kitchen, bathrooms and floors are clean I can live with the rest and yes a cleaning fairy would be lovely

every other week cleaning lady
and a ocd husband.
in other words i really don't clean.

The first thing I'm doing after I'm not paying for college for the kids is to get some type of cleaning help. I keep things straight which helps with the illusion of cleanliness but trust me... you could knit a new dog with the hair tumbleweeds rollin' around on the floor some days.

Cleaning lady/2 weeks... Laundry is the bane of my existence! Ugh! I also give the kids chores to help out... and DH too. They all need LOTS of reminders, lol! I would say that my house is "extra neat"... but not necessarily clean. I let her do most of the dirtily work, and try to keep up in between.

Well at least it sounds like we are all in the same boat! I wanted to like many of these comments! It's a daily struggle for me and I work two days a week. My kids are messy and I make my own share of messes!

I have a cleaning crew once every 3-4 weeks which forces me to tidy and pick up fully before they come. That helps.

Oh and digital scrapbooking has kept that room less crazy and unkempt! I was the messiest paper scrapper ever!

I try to avoid it all costs but I know I must do it so it begrudgingly gets done. Half of our condo doesn't even get used, two people in a 3 bedroom condo with a full basement. The bright side is the spare bedroom doesn't get messy and I only use the sitting area in the basement when I'm doing laundry so that stays tidy. My issue is closets, if I don't know where to put something it gets stuffed in a closet, lol.
