Pad Patter : 1/27 - Weddings

I've never liked weddings. Call me weird but I think it's a bunch of bull really. It's about two people who love each other and want to spend their lives together so big to dos I think are a waste of money you can spend on starting your lives together instead. Which is why we got married with only our parents there and literally a handful of friends. We got married in a park, then all went home and had a barbeque in the back yard and that was it. I didn't have an official gown or expensive ring either and my husband rented his tux so we were literally married for less than $1200 incl. rings. :giggle

Since my husband is from South Africa and we got married in Austria, there were just his parents, his brother and my niece from his side. Altogether we had about 50 to 60 guests. It was a court wedding, but I have to say I liked all of it. We had a reception inside a bar made completely of ice (you get puffy warm jackets when you go in), then we were at a local restaurant. I loved the food. One of my oldest friends did all the flower decorations. We didn't have a band, only background music playing. So it was more like a long and comfortable dinner. It sounds odd if I write this but I think everybody had a good time.


It's really funny, this thread has made me think back at our wedding in detail for the first time in years. I should actually do some pages about it (like about the story why I ended up with two dresses ...)

If I ever get married, I'd want to do it in Vegas. Of course, I'd have to meet a guy I actually want to marry. The older I get though, the less I want to share my TV or clean up after anyone else.

I have just finished cleaning up the constant mess DH leaves in the kitchen, and the TV is on his shows 97% of the time. You may be onto something. :giggle

We had small to medium-ish fairly traditional wedding. It turned out that DH's cousin was the pastor at a little church about 10 minutes from my hometown (DH did not grow up in that area), so we had him do the ceremony. We had the reception in a ballroom at the local university. It was a nice day. There were a few little hiccups, but I can't think of anything I'd really change. :)

You definitely should. That sounds amazing. And you totally need to tell the story about having two dresses. :)
 
Our wedding was HUGE....over 350 guests. My rule was....I (or hubby) HAD to be able to greet EACH AND EVERY guest by name or they were NOT invited! If we didn't know them personally they weren't coming. My parents were totally on board!!!

Our original plan was to get married in Fiji but....I felt guilty not having my family there. So then we tried Vegas and that was going to cost more money for the actual ceremony...it was going to be over 1K just for a chapel to hold everyone that wanted to go. So finally we said screw it and had a big, formal wedding with all our friends and family. It was absolutely perfect...I still got to wear my flip flops but I would have preferred to be barefoot in the sand!!!

I think we may renew our vows in Hawaii or Fiji so I can still have that beach wedding!!!

We had been dating for 4 years and my husband rented an apartment out of the blue. He wanted me to live with him, but my parents decided that I had to be married or they wouldn't pay for a wedding later (I don't even want to get into how my sister lived with her husband for a year and got a much nicer wedding than me, LOL!) Anyway, we got the apartment in Dec and planned a wedding for May! We went cheap and easy with everything, I even rented my dress!! So if I was changing things, I'd put more space between the wedding announcement and the wedding...EVERYONE thought I was pregnant!! (So happy my daughter was born two months after my SECOND anniversary LOL!) I would never ever ever have decided on white eye shadow (why does that even exist?!) and I would have hired a real photographer. My pictures are terrible, I let my brother's girlfriend take them.
