Are you going to be watching the Olympics? Do you have a favorite Olympic sport? Do you have watching parties or record them when you're sleeping? When you were little, did you ever want to be an Olympic athlete? Did you ever get to attend any of the events?

I never wanted to be an Olympian, and I am not a big watcher, but I have seen a couple of the pre-game gymnastics performances, and I'm always just blown away by what they can do. Sounds like this year's US gymnastics team is FIERCE.

The closest I've gotten to the Olympics is seeing the torch pass by when I worked in Seattle (2000?). :giggle

I was a volunteer in security for the 1990 Goodwill Games. :)

Nope. Not a watcher. Even though local boy (man) Phelps will be swimming. I watched my grandson swim enough to still worry about chlorine nose! I like the winter stuff er sports.

I like to try to catch the Opening Ceremony and I love the gymnastics and swimming. Soccer is on today, and I'm not a huge fan, but I'll try to catch a few minutes anyway.

Nope. I'm hardly aware the Olympics are happening. I've never been sporty, nor is anyone else in my family. The closest we got was when my son enjoyed some soccer classes around the age of 3-4. I started imagining I'd like to be a soccer mom. But he stopped enjoying them when the class format changed from a-ball-for-everyone and games to splitting up into teams and playing "for real." He told me once that he wished he could have soccer class with just his teacher, no other kids. LOL

I knew they were soon, didn't realize they already started. I hope to watch some. I find it interesting. And I hope to show my daughter the gymnastics parts because she has interest. My son will probably find some interest also.

I do... I usually watch some in the evenings. I like the peek at a whole slew of different sports and done in a couple weeks! Bits and pieces, seeing highlights, and the different countries is a fun way to watch sports for me.

I don't really follow other sports, occasionally soccer, baseball or football, depending on if the teams are doing well. The rest of my family is another story with regular sports - between my Mom and my hubby, I know a lot about the teams, standings and some players. My mom runs a huge amount of sports pools with friends and family, from golf, baseball, football, and so many other sports, she thinks I'm nuts that I don't have an interest like she does, :giggle. I just don't like to watch, unless in person, or out with friends (and I can watch people).

I'm not a huge sports fan and neither is DH but he's asked if I am "set to watch the opening ceremony" with our kids. Like, what? We care about sports now? He can watch with the kids: I'll go do something else. As a SAHM, it'd be nice to get some time to myself while DH and the kids hung out together.

It really depends on the time difference, the Olympics usually cater for North America/European times so always on at odd hours for us. will watch some and the Opening Ceremony.

We went to the Olympics when it was on in Sydney - saw the hockey and one night at Track and field - so exciting to be there, one of the Australians came second in the long jump - the whole crowd went off (in a good way!) then we won a wheelchair race that was a display event and we all got to sing the national anthem when she got her medal. One of the most memorable days/night ever.

I enjoy watching parts of it here and there, but I don't watch anything for very long lol My favorites are swimming, diving, gymnastics, soccer, and a few others. We love sports around here, but we probably won't be watching any of it this year because we got rid of our cable tv.

I do like watching the Olympics...but we get just get a few channels on our TV & no NBC! So, we won't be able to watch them. Maybe we can watch on-line? Anybody no of any legal ways to watch the Olympics? I would love my kids to be able to watch a few of the events.

Not a sports watcher here either. I do enjoy seeing little bits of it now and then if it's on, but it's not something I would sit down to watch. They made a big deal of it at school when I was a kid (that was back when the winter and summer games were held the same year - I'm that old :p), so I was more interested and would watch more back then. Currently, I really don't watch much TV period, and when DH and the kids do, it's usually Netflix, so I didn't even realize the games had started.

We love it here ... love the swimming, diving and soccer the most ... we caught the tail end of a soccer match yesterday evening. I'm not a huge TV watcher though, so I will just catch it at random moments and likely be multi tasking while watching. My daughter is the heavy watcher in the house.

I'm not a sports fan, but the Olympics are special. I enjoy the pageantry, all the countries and learning more about the athletes' stories. We'll definitely watch the opening, and I like gymnastics and swimming. We don't have good TV reception so we might go to my in-laws house to watch the opening at least. I can use my parents Comcast to stream other things.

We will be watching when we can and as long as the events are things we're interested in. I watched soccer all day yesterday :) DH really enjoys the Olympics. I used to LOVE watching gymnastics as a child. Floor routines were my fave. The kids enjoy them, too, though they aren't like, screaming excited about them lol We're looking forward to the opening ceremonies!

It really depends for me on how they edit it. I hate when I'm watching an event and they switch from gymnastics to swimming in the middle, and then commercials, and commentary, and by the time they get back it's 3 countries later. Blah! Really, I'd rather watch the athletes than the talking heads. I avoid the prime time coverage, so it depends on what they make available.

I enjoy the opening ceremonies. I like to watch the countries march, usually when I'm doing something on the computer. The winter Olympics were held in SLC in 2002, and while we were poor college kids, we did still come up and wander around the city. We checked out the flame, and walked by the venues and enjoyed the culture and people and energy.
I actually just took this the other night thinking about the Olympics:

@Scrapping with Liz I think you can watch most items on NBCOlympics.com or the NBC Sports App. They should be free, and then you can pick and choose what you would like to watch.

I used to love them as a kid. Now I just watch in winter, the ice skating. I worked for Stanford Athletics for years, I've seen & met a lot of the athletes. I didn't know who most of them were. I was a little starstruck by the Magnificent Seven, especially Kerri Strug. I have an autographed picture of Amy Chow on my fridge. She did a rotation in my dermatology department when she was in med school.

I like the winter Olympics better than the summer ( LOVE hockey!) I have not watched any yet, but might take a peek. As a kid I was small but fast, so I thought about being in the Olympics, running or the long jump (something I won every year in our elementary school Olympics) Ive never been to the Olympics, and dont think I would. Im not a crowd person.

@djp332 that's a cool idea! DH loves cooking (and eating rotfl) so I'm going to suggest having a Brazilian-themed dinner. We had chicken pot pie skillet tonight (from America's Test Kitchen cookbook, @catschwartz!) so we missed it tonight. Even if I don't care about sports (sorry, sports people), I do enjoy learning about cultures and supporting the US during the Olympic Games. :)
