So I was wondering, what does everyone do for a living? And if you are a SAHM, what did you do before you became a Mommy?

I am a CPA. I started working part time once my son was born 5 years ago. As soon as we move I will be a SAHM. Although I am hoping to work during tax season for my present employer remotely.

I was a high school teacher for 9 years, took a job at a university alumni association for 3, stayed at home with the kiddos for 1 year and went back to work outside the home last June as a personal banker. I would love to be able to work only part-time. Maybe some day.

I am a pre-K teacher and loving it! I am finishing up my education with hopes to teach kindergarten someday! :)

right now, I am working from home for my father in law who is head of an anesthesia group. I do admin work like payroll and such as well as coordinate the billing company and hospital and anything else that needs to be done. Before dh and I worked for a non profit overseas and I worked at a bank for 7 years through college and after. I love being able to stay home with my boys (dh is in med school so is frequently MIA), and am thankful for my job, but don't want to do it forever.

Shanna, bless you for wanting to work with small children! I love my boys to pieces but children in large quantities scare me to death! LOL

I'm a part-time SAHM. My other job is an x-ray technologist... I'm the one who takes your pictures when you have a broken bone... or other things of the like. I find working part-time is a good balance for me. I don't get tired of my job yet I still get time with my kids. :)

I'm a SAHM now. I was an Executive Asst. to the Pres. and VP in Florida and then when we moved here I was the Branch Secretary and Med Only WC Claims Adjuster. I know fun huh. It paid well and kept me busy.

I'm a fulltime student at the art institute studying photography. I'll graduate in September with a bfa. I also work part time at the apple store as a creative. I get to teach people anything they want to learn. More and more of my customers are wanting to learn digiscrapping. It's totally fun and awesome. I show them the lilypad, show them how to get their stuff, then how to scarp in more times then not keynote. My girls are so fresh on a computer Photoshop is to much for them right away. I have no clue what to do after I graduate and it's coming up fast. I even have to do an internship starting in April. Anyone want to let me intern with them? Seriously. Anyone? Ten hours a week for three months. K thanks. :)

I'm a SAHM now. Before this I worked in Public Relations/Marketing for everything from regional sports televison and radio, to a vitamin/supplement company (Rexall Sundown/MetRx) and then to a private golf club. Basically I kissed butts, wrote stuff, designed stuff, kissed more butts and make crappy things sound/look good. hahahahahah. I also did a lot of infomercials and promotional commercials and acting gigs. However, I've only booked 2 since Sophie was born, probably because of the weight I've put on. Oh well. I hope never to go back to work full time again, at least for other people! I will probably get back into theatre once she is older, even if it's just community theatre for free.

I'm a WAHM. I am a finished artist (similar to a graphic designer) and used to work for a large printing company but now can pick and choose my own clients working from home. Of course I am also a digi designer :)

for 21 years i followed my military husband around - which pretty much meant that i wasn't going to have a serious career. for awhile i was an accounting technician/office manager - then i quit everything to home school our kids. about the time they hit high school i figured i could get away for a few hours here and there to interact with adults.

i did 3 years with starbucks as a barista. loved the job.

then when we moved here to colorado i quit starbucks and started being a personal assistant to a family. i did everything that needed to be done. being a personal assistant was really interesting. i learned alot about myself through that process. and let's just say that everyone has their own opinion about what a personal assistant should be and do.

i've stopped doing that and now i'm dusting off my resume and looking. for what i'm not sure. :imok

I've been a SAHM for the last 5 years. I am also a Chartered Accountant. (Canadian equivalent to CPA). Before I had kids, I was a Senior Corporate Tax Manager at KPMG. I sometimes miss those days - people listened to me, I got to talk to adults all day, I bought whatever I wanted, I had a maid, I took private ballroom dance lessons a couple times per week, had vacations, nice clothes, I wore jewelery and perfume, I got to sleep in on weekends .... the tradeoff is worth it ... right? :think :giggle

I'm a SAHM now and have been for exactly 2 years next week. Before that, I was the admin assistant to a college president for 6 years and was pretty darn good at it. ;)

mine is pretty boring compared to some! i work full time at a local newspaper, doing ads and putting the paper together for printing and i also do the bookkeeping

ah..i can so relate! :) but, so totally worth it.

i'm a mechanical engineer (marine, really, but that's too hard to explain most of the time) and worked all over in the field in design, planning, scheduling, technical writing, etc. not sure if i'll ever go back - would i be willing to work for some young fresh-out-of-a-master's-program kid at this point? not sure... so not sure. i'd really love to become some kind of technology administrator at a high school... maybe a master's in education is in order?! ;)

fun to read about you all!!!!

I work at the distribution center for a midwestern department store. I started in HR but transfered to the traffic department for a bit more excitement. Our department is the one responsible for getting the cute clothes our buyers chose to our DC at a fair price!

Wow you gals are so interesting...

Me, I'm an account manager for an auto parts manufacturer. We make a/c components ( underbody lines, HVACS, Accumlators, and underhood lines) for Ford, Gm, Chrysler and so forth. I manage the Ford and Chrysler accounts as well as a few others. It is never dull and keeps me busy. I travel to MI once a month to make and make sure my customers are happy. Sometimes, that's not the easiest. We win the business, say we can meet the timelines, and through the manufacturing process work to meet with production the timelines we laid out and agreed too. Of course doing all of this while the industry is up and down with so many variables.

I dream of the day when I can work part time...lol

OMG I love reading this thread as you guys are all so smart and interesting!! But then on the flip side I now have to embarrassingly admit to my life...oh crap.

Okay I am a SAHM who scraps. Previously I worked at a fast food chicken shop as cashier and then assistant manager while I was studying at uni. Unfortunately in the last year of my uni degree (Geology) I hurt my back and couldn't finish my last 2 units. So I have no qualifications and no experience :( and no wish to work! :giggle
