What are you doing for New Year’s Eve this year? The same as always or doing it differently with the pandemic? The pandemic isn’t changing much for us. We usually get Chinese takeout and play games all night and watch the ball drop in New York on tv. I wonder if the ball will drop in New York this year?
No change for me. I haven't gone out for NYE in probably 30 some years. I think the last time I was anywhere other than my house on NYE was in the early 90's when I went to my aunt/uncle's house for their family Christmas. That house is about a mile from mine. As for the Times Square ball drop, it is going to be virtual this year. Here's what you need to know about Times Square's virtual ball drop this New Year's Eve | 6sqft
We're also a "stay home and watch the ball drop" family. I do a fun dinner for the kids--this year we're doing a waffle bar--and sometimes DH and I order in. (He's anti-New Years and makes it a point to be in bed before midnight, LOL.) For the last few years my 17-year old has stayed up with me to watch the ball drop. The only thing different this year is that my 12-year old is determined to stay up and see 2020 leave!
We never even manage to stay up until midnight So nothing different for us. I'll do a big prime rib dinner and we'll probably be in bed before 10
A waffle bar sounds fun. We had waffles for dinner tonight or I’d steal your idea for NYE. we are 2 hours behind NYC so many times we watch the ball drop at 10 pm and go to bed early.
much the same for us as we don't go to parties. We'll look over the town at midnight and watch everyone elses fireworks. If the sky is clear then the view is spectacular. We normally spend new year's day with friends or family, that can't happen this year as it's currently illegal.
Same for us, just hanging out at home like we always do. We'll probably play some games and have some silly hats or noise makers. Our town does their own version of the ball drop with a big celebration downtown (ice sculpting, kids games, hot chocolate bars, etc) but it's usually soooo cold I never want to venture down there lol. This year when everything is virtual, it's actually supposed to be much warmer :/.
It will be as low key as every other year to be honest....we will stay up but not 100% by choice as our neighbours will most likely be “celebrating”, aka making enough noise for the entire neighbourhood so we might as well just stay up. Luckily Friday is my mum’s day off from work so if we’re a few hours short of sleep it’s not the end of the world.
This may the first year since young childhood that I don't stay up to midnight. (I don't remember about the NYE when my 19 year old was a baby and it's possible I went to bed early then too.) With my new USPS job, I've been waking up at 6 a.m. every day. It's easy for me -- I'm a morning bird -- but it means I can barely stay awake past 9 p.m. anymore. I'd do it anyway for NYE but I actually have to work both NYE and New Year's Day. My USPS job is delivering packages, primarily Amazon on Sundays and holidays. I wouldn't mind just missing the holiday. What I'm dreading is the weather, which is forecast to rain all day.
I always buy lots of snacks and we never eat them. We discussed having a Phineas and Ferb marathon, but my youngest says we would have had to start watching them by 2:00 yesterday to finish them all in time. But we will probably make it some kind of a tv/movie night (which is what we try to do every year. It doesn't always work out when we don't have a movie in mind though. I think last year the kids just all did their own thing and only came out to watch the ball drop.)
New Year's Eve isn't a big deal for us most years. Most of the time it's just a regular night with us all doing our usual stuff. Since the New York ball drop is an hour ahead of us, we may or may not watch it, and then whoever is still awake at midnight will come into the family room and watch the local live countdown broadcast from whatever festivities are happening in Dallas. I haven't even checked to see what is happening with that this year.
Oh Phineas and Ferb! We love that show and used to watch it all the time with the older kids. I'll have to remind my kids about that one. I hope it's on Disney+
We usually have family here and have a little New Year's Eve party with them with finger foods, doing puzzles, playing games, watching It's a Wonderful Life & then watching the ball drop. But this year they won't be here. So we'll do all of that with just our kids.
We're all getting together at my granddaughter's house. She has beautiful lights strung all over the top of her deck and they got some industrial outdoor heaters ( like the ones restaurants use outdoors). She also has a firepit and we're all going to bundle up in blankets and set off fireworks at midnight. We have everything ready for S'mores + I'm not sure what else we're all pitching in with.
I was right, my neighbours have already started and it’s not even 6pm on NYE so zero chance of an early night as I predicted.
Spent most of the past week with DD, DS and his family. DD returns to TX tomorrow, so we will be back to just the two of us. Having a Turkish/Kurdish meal and watching our DIRILIS OSMAN series.
