A long time ago, I read a Babysitters Club book that talked about saying "Rabbit, Rabbit" first thing when you wake up in a new month. Now, I don't remember why exactly, but I think it was for Good Luck? I do know it is a habit I still have today!

A much better habit I have is to check my online backup and make sure photos from my camera and Dropbox have been moved to their permanent folders on the 1st of the month.

Do you have anything you do the first day of a new month?

YES, good idea to do those things monthly, and the first of the month is a great time to do it! I try to do it in the middle of the month cuz I have other things going on the first week (volunteering, checking smoke detector batteries, deep cleaning... procrastinating so I don't have to deep clean lol). But you've got me thinking that maybe I should just do it at the beginning and the middle of the month. Heaven knows I've always got stuff to back up. :)

What I need to start doing the first of the month is organizing our pantry. IDK how it gets so disorganized. Oh wait, I do. It's my husband. :eyeroll I'm hoping to come up with a system so it stays relatively organized and then the beg. of the month I just tidy and find out what staples we need to pick up.
 
as a kid we used to stand on the bed on the 1st and turn in 3 circles on the 1st! lol! don't know why, babysitters club hadn't been written yet! lol
I vote today (not for primaries, but our local mayoral race)! I love the process and my kids are excited as I am teaching the electoral process this year too!
 
Oh I don't do anything special, except for checking the new challenges in the forum. lol
Right now we have a week break from work (school) so I could do something special but normally when I have to work the start of a new month isn't anything I think about though..
 
Something similar. I read a book, I have no clue where or when, and the character made a wish on the first day of every month. I do that, lol! Nothing crazy, more down to earth. I wish this month... school is more tolerable for the boys, homework is on the easier side, or that we get some good weather. That sort of stuff.

Great idea for the back up and such on the first.
 
I try to remember to say Rabbit Rabbit, which a college roommate did way back before Babysitters Club was written!
Then I have to be an adult and make sure the bills are paid!
 
Nothing exciting. I check the school menu for anything interesting. I see what days off I have from work. I remind myself to pay rent before the 3rd. I mentally check off the dates of my board meeting and den meetings. The days just blend together so much.

This new month though, I'm glad to see the back of last month. Last month was all about tests, tests and more tests and then a diagnosis of breast cancer and then surgery for the same. Some further treatment looming for next month, but this month is looking good - so glad you're here March!!
 
Haha I do the "rabbit, rabbit" thing! I can't even remember now where I first heard it. I also do not change any calendars until it is actually the 1st of the month. Somewhere, at some point in time, I heard that changing them early was bad luck, so I don't take any chances :p. I usually try to back up all my stuff before the first and have the new month's folders ready to go.
 
Balance the Checkbook (aka: pay the bills) and fill out the wall calendar for the kids (they need a visual of what is happening during the month). I did balance the checkbook. As far as the calendar went all I go was my son's b-day written on it because there was no way he was going to let me forget his b-day!

Also, I always take a peek a the Kindle First books from Amazon Prime, and I'm trying to remember to go in and "skip" my month at Fabkids (so I don't get charged).

I am also trying to do the backup/create new folders thing. Today my computer wouldn't cooperate, but I'll hit it tomorrow.

When I was still working and had a paper tear off calendar as my desk blotter - hoping this makes sense to some younger readers!!! it was only 10 years ago. LOL ..I enjoyed tearing off the prior month and having a clean page under my hands . I also did clean out and back up on the last day of the month. I try to do that now on my home computer so this is a good reminder. It did get done on that extra day last month!
 
That's so funny about the rabbit rabbit thing. We say "rabbit rabbit rabbit" when we are by a campfire and the smoke is getting in our eyes. Again, I have no idea why do this... it's just something someone else said along the way and now we all do it. So funny.

Like a lot of others I have Polly/scrappy things I do on the 1st (or by the 1st). My backups I do every Friday, so that's not month dependent. Otherwise I can't really think of anything I do on the 1st each month.
 
I start a new excel spreadsheet for my check book for that month. I check out the new challenges and I go on some blog hops. Fun, fun days!
