OK, the fonts in my PSE 11 are getting WAY out of hand!! It's because every time I grab a new font I choose OPEN and, of course, the font goes directly to PSE. I never learned any other way.
Can someone explain how to delete fonts I don't use, even if they are the ones that came with the program? Also, what happens if I click SAVE instead of OPEN? Where does the font go to? How do I start a file and upload the font just when I want to use it and then take it back out of PSE when I am done???????
It's about time I learned the ins and outs of handling fonts!!!! Thanks for your help!!!

Oh my I was in the same boat! There are MANY font manager programs that are great for us font-o-holics! I currently used FontBase, but have used Nexus Font in the past. Basically you don't 'install' any fonts into your system. I save to a Font folder & then the font managing program can access all those in that folder. Within the manager you can turn fonts on/off so you can use them when needed- but not slow down your system. Make sense?

To delete fonts- depending on your system- I use windows. THere is a font folder you can search for 'installed fonts.' I usually 'uninstall' but make a copy just in case! Some fonts you wont be able to uninstall but some is better than 1000's (in my case!) ;)

Amie, I just installed NexusFont yesterday and I've been playing with it. Are you saying I should move ALL of my fonts out of my Windows Fonts folder and into just, like, a separate, regular folder? For example, I could make a FONTS subfolder in my Digiscraps folder and keep my all my fonts in there? Then I can install (or uninstall) from there? And if I move all of my fonts into that folder, NF will know to look in it for my fonts? And then if I "install" them via NF, then they'll show up in PS and Word, etc?

I quoted Amie since she posted about using NF, anyone with info, please share. :) Thanks!

@Tree City I did move all that it would let me- there are some system fonts that you can't uninstall so there's about 100 or so still in that folder. As far as 'where' nexus font looks for fonts- you can set that up in your program- which folder for it to look in. Then we you select it- it should show up in photoshop/word/silhouette, etc. :)

Ahhhh, thank you for all the info so far!! Will be watching this thread with anticipation!!

Me too! I need a method for font management and had actually started using Nexus at some point. I need a bigger brain!

Thanks for this, Amie! @A-M was sweet enough to PM me some info too, so I think I've got a handle on it now. I didn't want to start moving or uninstalling or ANYTHING until I heard from a few people who had used NF, so this really helps calm my nerves. I like too many fonts to accidentally delete them from my laptop--even if I have them backed up in like 5 places! :flirty

Ooh! I have a zillion fonts too, but no font manager. I know they exist, but I was too lazy to research and pick one. I'm going to come back here and watch that tutorial tonight Kiana!

I cut some fonts and placed them into a different folder - was so scared I would delete a font that was crucial to the pc somehow. In the end none of the ones I removed mattered.

I switched from Nexus to fontbase last night. So far, I like that it is easier to add font folders, and seems to be quicker.
I'm still learning how to take a font out of a wrong category.

For Nexus: Also, don't forget that you can create sets so you can sort your fonts into different categories and then just load the fonts in that set.

Yup what she said!!! So you can put all your cursive fonts together, or all your typewriter fonts. etc

Oh my - I spent 2 hours organizing fonts after downloading NexusFont. So how do you use it? Do you use it to preview fonts? And then load the one you want? Or maybe load a group you thing you want? Then you uninstall without deleting?

I did uninstall about 300 fonts so maybe my programs will load faster.

I like using NexusFont for viewing fonts but I like using my old AMP Font Viewer where I can temporarily install a font that I only want to use for a current project. The font stays installed while you have AMPFont View open ( minimised of course out of the way). Now once you close AMP the font is no longer installed so if you open a layout to work on again you will need to install temporarily until your layout is finished and flattened.

I hope that all makes sense.

This is kinda how NexusFont works @BevG
Whatever folder you have open in NexusFont, the computer sees as being installed. When you close NexusFont the computer no longer sees them as installed.

Thanks Kiana for the video.
That is similar to my old AMP Font Viewer and I did not realise I could do that with Nexus so I think I will be doing some rearranging in my Nexus when I can find some spare time.

This is very cool. Interesting side-note: this does NOT work with Artisan. Artisan only sees fonts in the System folder and it only reads them one time: when the program starts.

It does appear to work with PSE as described, so this will be good.

With both programs, know what font I was using and saving the jpg will be key. Hopefully, I can get my favorites loaded and it just be the occasional one that I need to load for other reasons.

Microsoft won't let you delete the system fonts. Believe me, I have tried to remove some of those foreign language ones. So delete/move all you want.

I just installed NexusFont and started organizing. This is going to take a while since I have over 800 fonts installed. Any tips on organizing? Do I want to move them into sets and then uninstall? Do I leave the font file where it is, or move into a Nexus backup folder and then delete?
