When I was browsing for inspiration for today's pad patter Google told me that it is National Tie One On Day today in the USA. A day celebrating aprons! How cool is that? Well I think it's cool. I LOVE aprons. I wear them for all my household chores, and even more than wearing them I ADORE making them. Every year when the kids were little I made them a new apron for ST Nickolas Day in time for the Christmas Baking etc. Now they've stopped growing they don't need a new one each year :(

I have 2 favourite apron styles:
  • A full length one for anything that involves water, dirt or foods that stain etc.
  • A 1/2 apron with pockets for general household chores for putting those little things I pick up in. I found those pocket aprons very useful recently when I was using crutches to move around - could put my phone, snacks, and glasses case etc in them.
Do you use aprons? If so what type(s) do you like/use?
Have you ever made aprons?
IF you are not an apron wearer, did anyone in your family use one when you were a child?
 
I'm not an apron-wearer, but I have some aprons and chef hats that I bought for my grandkids to wear while cooking/baking with me.

I've never sewn any aprons.

I have fond memories of my mom, grandmother, great-aunt and their cousin wearing aprons while cooking, then cleaning up after holiday meals.

Hmmmmm ... it might be fun to buy my sisters aprons for Christmas ...
 
I rarely use an apron, nor did my mom. I do have two of them though, both sewn by my mom. I've never sewn an apron. I've only sewn about 5 things in my life, mostly all back in the 1980's and 90's.

Funny, when I was just clicking on the thread title, I thought it was going to be about neck ties. :lol I haven't worn or sewn one of those either. Two of my kids have worn them though!
 
When I read the title I thought it was about drinking. It's a saying here if someone is going to "tie one one" that means they are going out drinking. I have NO idea where that saying starting because it makes no sense to me, but my hubby says it sometimes. :giggle

As far as aprons, I only wear one when I'm painting because otherwise I'd have paint all over my clothes all the time. I used to wear one as a kid to be like my mom and I even sewed one of my own as a kid with tiny little pockets for individual crayons. Even back then I love my art supplies. :D
 
Do you use aprons? If so what type(s) do you like/use? I currently own only one kitchen apron. It's a full-length apron in a lovely fall floral pattern, with pockets and adjustable ties (it was a gift, the kind of thing I wouldn't buy for myself, but it's very nice to have). I use it when I'm making something that might splatter and stain (e.g., marinara, or other tomato-based, sauces).

Have you ever made aprons? I once made an apron, way back in the mists of time, for a grade 7 home economics project. It was in a red gingham check, as I recall

If you are not an apron wearer, did anyone in your family use one when you were a child? My mother used to wear a cute Christmas apron while cooking during the holidays, but never wore an apron outside of the Christmas season

I love that you put tiny pockets in your apron for your crayons - that's so cute as well as practical.
