I was doing a little googling and found out that today is National Lazy Day and National Smores Day. What a great combination. These holidays definitely come at a good time. Hot, muggy weather make it easy to kick back and be lazy for a day. If your summer chores aren't done by now, they can just wait one more day.... hehe Here's your chance to kick back and take it easy today. I know I'm gonna take advantage of the day and be lazy. I'll just do the things I want to do like a little scrappin and s'more snackin! LOL For those of you who don't know what s'mores are. They are a favorite campfire treat made by sandwiching a chocolate bar and roasted marshmallow between two graham crackers. They're sticky and gooey, and loaded with sugar and carbs, but they're nothing short of delicious. You gotta try em. No one knows for sure who came up with them, but S'more folklore suggests that S'mores got their name right by the campfire. After eating one, kids begged "gimme s'more!" How to make S'mores: Ingredients: Chocolate candy bar Honey Graham Crackers Marshmallows Instructions: Break off a square of Graham cracker Add a piece of Chocolate. Toast a big marshmallow over the campfire. Add the hot marshmallow. Top it with another graham Cracker. Eat , savor and enjoy! Note: You can make S'mores in the microwave. Just put them together and pop them into the microwave on high for 15 to 20 seconds. I haven't had s'mores yet this year, but now I just gotta have em! How about you? Do you like s'mores? Have you had them recently? Are you gonna take advantage of the holiday and be lazy and eat s'mores? Inquiring minds wanna know...
I knew it was S'mores day but didn't know about lazy day. Love it! I'm a big fan of s'mores. I had one a few weeks ago with Brownie Brittle instead of Graham crackers as the outer layer and then I smeared The Peanut Butter Co. white chocolate PB on the inside of one of the brittle pieces, and then put my chocolate on top of that. Then I roasted two marshmallows. It was probably 7500 calories and 500g of sugar. But after I recovered from the heart attack and sugar shock, I realized it was the best s'more I'd ever eaten!
Oh what fun days to celebrate! I love s'mores, but recently my nephew introduced us to S'moreos it's a s'more but with an Oreo instead of graham crackers. They are so good especially with mint oreos. Yummy! There's a picture in the upper right corner of one here:
I was about to go to the gym, but now I must stay home and celebrate! Ok, you got me, I didn't really want to go. But then I should call it "National Lazy Week"!
It's been awhile since I had one. I think the last ones were made in the oven for a party for my daughter. I'll skip the S'mores celebration (although yours sound so good @Tree City !!! mmmm PB!) .... and just embrace the Lazy Day celebration.
The boys & I had a lazy day one week ago today. We had a whole song & we ate s'mores since it was the day after we came back from camping & we had the ingredients. Wait until I tell my 9yr old this is really a thing! We just celebrated one week early.
@Karen I'd wanted to make S'moreos but we were out of Oreos...that's when I improvised. For those of you wondering what Brownie Brittle was, I thought the pic would help. We found it at Costco, but they have it at grocery stores too. I don't like crispy brownies but I do love this brittle! Oh, and I thought of another S'Mores treat we like: cast iron pan s'mores. Be careful cuz the chocolate can scorch (or whatever it's called when it burns and tastes disgusting). I can't find the pics but ours turned out really well on the grill. Umm, maybe I have a problem? Maybe I like desserts more than I probably should???
I like s'mores occasionally. I think I might have had them made in front of our fireplace last winter. If not, then it was last summer. My younger daughter loved marshmallows so much for a while that she'd roast them over a stove burner in our kitchen. She doesn't like any of the available gluten free graham crackers though, and used gf cookies instead several times.
@Tree City - those looks so yummy! I've never heard of brownie brittle, but now I just might have to try it.
We love s'mores in this house!! Back in June we made a s'more solar cooker which was a lot of fun! Maybe I'll have my hubby hit the store on his way home for a chocolate bar and some graham crackers so the girls can make a couple
I should call it "National Lazy Summer" because I've been so bad about getting to water aerobics. I just keep getting distracted by all the kids' stuff that's going on around here. That's awesome! You're ahead of the game and didn't even know it... hehe My sister and I used to roast marshmallows on our gas stove when we were teens. I miss those days.
It was so much fun!! I have a page in the gallery about it, but here's the link to the one that we made, it was quick and easy to make, we picked up pizza from Little Caesar's and hubby just asked for an extra empty box and they happily gave him one.
@Karen - I've never heard of s'moreos but I'm sure my hubby and kids would love em. We've made them with Keebler fudge stripe cookies and marshmallows for easy s'mores.
I'm all for "lazy day"! Not so much the smores...not allowed on my keto diet, but that's ok. Lazy day for me would be scrapping, binge watching a good series, snacking on Oberto pepperoni sticks (seriously, so good) and staying in my jammies
those pepperoni sticks sound yummy! I really need to do less carbs. I just might have to get some pepperoni sticks to snack on.
I haven't made s'mores in decades but I did have some of my great love today - Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate - so I think I'm good. Having a week alone with dh off fishing guarantees a lot of lazy days...
yes! that is what we did with our oven backed version of smores for a party. it was messy to clean up though!
Yeah, not an easy clean up, for sure. But worth it for the 4 of us at home. (IDK about a party. That's a lot of chocolate and marshmallows lol!)
