that is amazing!! I want to do something very similar with the IKEA shelves (making a room similar to this for my kids, want to tell me how you did the trim :)

We already had a mitre saw and it really wasn't hard at all. You just have to rotate the saw to 45° and cut to the inside dimension. One piece is rotated to 45° in one direction and the other side you rotate the saw the other direction at 45°. I was so nervous to make each cut and mess up the lengths, but I just measured about a zillion times and then held my breath and chopped! :)

Then I predrilled the nail holes so I wouldn't crack the molding. I spackled the nail holes and then painted the trim to match those Ikea shelves. To match the color I took one of the shelves to Ace and the used a scanner to match the color exactly!

Sure! How awesome would be it be to have my own personal designer in the basement! :giggle

That looks great! I'm in love with that dresser turned tv stand. Want to redo one for me???

Great job! Gotta love Craigs List. I have redone my scrap room with furniture from Craigs List. I was amazed at how cheap I could find stuff if I was patient and kept looking (my hubs looked every day for me too). I just picked up the last piece I wanted on Saturday, a pine armoire for $20 and it looks brand new. Doesn't it feel good to do it on the cheaper side yet still have it look so nice? I sure think so.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeks I love it! You did a FABULOUS job!!! I'm jealous! Great taste too! ;0) Congrats!

Wow!! It's so awesome, I love it. And love the way you documented the whole transformation.

oh my gawsh!!!!! Karen this is stunning!!! A complete and perfect re-do!!! I can recall those kinda stuff int he old basement form my younger years haha, mum and dad redid a lot too. And the best part of it all, what you also keep in mind while busy in the project (especially sanding down annoying bends and creaks and stuff in the dressers >< been there done that) is sitting down, feet up and just sitting there, enjoying the view!!

Karen, what did you used to paint your floor?

I used a cement paint from Sherwin Williams. It was even water based so easy to clean up and I can't believe how well it's stuck to the floor even in high traffic areas like the bottom on the stairs.

I was trying to link you up, but I can't find it on their website. It was whatever the guy working there told me to use. Plus I could add color tint to it and make it whatever color I wanted. Very cool stuff. I'll see if I can remember to look it up when I get home tonight.

Sherwin Williams is the bomb diggity. Plus, my husband works there, so I get a big discount. :giggle

Okay... I looked at the can and the floor paint is called Porch & Floor Enamel. Awesome stuff.

Angie, that would be awesome to have a discount at SW! Lucky duck! :)

Wow, that is just amazing Karen! I love how you documented the steps to completion. Any chance you want to come and do my basement? I really like the "hello".

Wow! It's beautiful, Karen! I'd love to have a space like that... but first I need to dig a basement! :giggle
