I have wanted to redo our basement "rec" room since we moved in almost 10 years ago because it was by far the most dated area of our house, but with small kids we figured we shouldn't bother until they were a little older. Well, in August I finally couldn't stand it anymore and just dove in head first. I didn't have much money to work with so I couldn't do drywall or new carpet or new furniture, but I found so many amazing deals on Craigslist and am so proud of how good it looks that I just had to brag a little bit. I even made all the wall art from ideas I found on Pinterest.

I posted the before and after in the gallery(and they are linked here), but I wanted to show all the pages I made for the in-between stages too! :)

The only frustrating part is that I want to replace the stairs too and we have a little money set aside to do that, but we haven't been able to get it scheduled yet. I'm REALLY hoping to get it done before summer hits and we get too busy. It was the only part of the project that I couldn't do myself, so I couldn't just plow through and get it all done.

Wow! I'm so inspired!!! My basement flooded and the walls are half torn out and the ceiling is falling down, so I NEED to do something with it, but it seems so overwhelming. Yours came out amazing!!! Mine needs a lot more work. :(

wow - this is super inspiring! We did new carpet and drywall in our basement this summer, but it sits empty (except for the kids toys) because of limited funds and I'm just not quite sure what to do w/ it. I really, really love how yours turned out!

Fantastic work! I started on the dining room Saturday but just deep cleaning and rearranging. DH says I should get our bedroom next! Little does he know I'm working on getting paint and wallpaper removal. He thinks it'll be just a deep cleaning but I've got news for him! LOL

Love the white and pop of blue!

Amazing, I love how bright it is and I love what you did with the dresser! I could go on and on, these things make me excited cause I'm also in the process of transforming my house and we do most of it ourselves.

What an awesome job on the reno but also an amazing documentation of it all... a great set of pages there. You rock!!

Oh my gosh, Karen! It looks awesome, both the basement and your documentation!

it looks fantastic! so bright and fresh! i bet it makes a world of difference in how you feel going down there!! i love the dresser :beat

Thanks guys! This project was a LOT of work, but it was so much fun at the same time seeing it all come together. It felt like I was never going to finish while I was working on it, but looking back now it was so worth it. The best part is that we all tend to migrate down there now and will hang out and watch TV together or read or whatever because it's so much brighter and fun down there. :)

it looks flipping amazing, when can I schedule you to work on mine?

it looks great! Doesn't it feel awesome to look at it when it's all done knowing that you did it all yourself?!

Wow - Karen, it's an amazing transformation! Lovely! :)

Wowzers Karen - WAY TO GO! What a nice space - so updated and fresh looking!!! Be proud girl - that is a LOT of work to do pretty much on your own!!! Your dresser looks amazing too!!!

that is amazing!! I want to do something very similar with the IKEA shelves (making a room similar to this for my kids, want to tell me how you did the trim :)
