So do you ever feel like it is a fruitless effort to clean your floors? Like they are just going to instantly get dirty again.

I was looking at a cleaning schedule on Pinterest, and it got me thinking about floor cleaning, and wondering how often it *should* be done vs. how often I do it. LOL. One cleaning checklist had sweeping daily, vacuuming and mopping once a week. But then I saw another that had mopping twice a month.

How do you handle floors? Do you ever feel like it would be easier to move/find a new house than to clean yours? Or experience frustration of cleaning them only to have someone track dirt in a half an hour later?

:tantrum

Hahahaha! I should be doing this WAY MORE OFTEN. I hate it. This is actually my least favourite household chore.
Anyway. Setting: I live alone and I pretty much never walk around the house with shoes on.

I sweep once a week. *hides in corner* I don't have a vacuum because I live very small and there is no way I can store a vacuum anywhere where it's not all ugly and in your face. I mop every other week. Or I try to at least. I swear.
Because I live on my own and I don't wear shoes inside this cleaning routine is doable. Sweeping twice a week would probably be better and I sometimes do (rarely but sometimes).

Anyone who knows me, knows that cleaning is not my thing. I clean mostly when things get visibly bad. There is no way I would sweep everyday. I probably sweep once a week to two weeks, unless I see crud on the floor. Mopping is more like when someone is coming over, otherwise, I just wipe up spills as they happen. I always say I have way too many other things I'd rather be doing.

Those signs that say "excuse the mess, we live here" were born in a house like mine. :)

Yuck to cleaning in general, but especially the floors! I talk myself out of it all to easily, I think my favorite phrase is "It will still be dirty tomorrow". With that said, I usually force myself to get to it the way Karen does, when it's visibly dirty, and then I do it all at once & hope it will last for months. Too bad it never does!

Our home is completely wood floors and tile - two rugs total in 2000 square feet. I HATE to sweep, because it just pushes it from here to there, and aggravates dd's asthma and my allergies more than it just staying where it is. That said, this past weekend I finally found a great deal on a cordless Dyson. It came in yesterday and I have already cleaned my floors more yesterday (and again this morning) than I had in the past month combined! (DH was sweeping before when it needed it) I still need to mop the floors, but that feels a lot more do-able when the tumbleweeds are gone ;)

The floors are the thing I absolutely hate cleaning! I have two cats and one dog... and the occasional visit from the long-haired daughter. Truly, you could knit a new dog with the tumbleweeds I can have in that place in a week of not sweeping. To make it even nicer, the cats sling the cat litter, I swear they must! It refuses to be contained in the boxes or on the myriad of rugs that I try to use to corral it. It's too hot where I live to wear socks unless it's winter so it's barefoot all the time at home. I cannot stand to step on cat litter! So I sweep pretty much every day or two and try to vacuum once a week. I am not admitting to how often I mop... suffice it to say that it's not weekly ;)

I sweep several times a day... mainly b/c we have all hard wood and it NEVER looks clean. I'm embarrassed to say that my "baby broom" and with stand up dustpan literally stays out in the open 95% of the time at my house. Now, as for mopping... not so much ;)

I have wood floor in my living room, which I hate, but it has been practical with the littlun. I used to clean it every week with a proper wood floor cleaner, but it just looked streaky no matter what I used.

Now I just hoover once a week and wipe up spills. My floor is seasoned like a wok :giggle ..you know how you're not supposed to clean a wok...

It doesn't look streaky anymore though.

I clean my house once a week top to bottom on a Monday morning, and don't touch it the rest of the week unless there is a spill or I spot something that looks gross.

I don't believe in chore charts :giggle

We have a German Shepherd and a Siberian Forest Cat, both of whom shed constantly. Hubby and I both work from home so we vacuum almost daily to stay on top of it. True confession though...the mopping only happens when our cleaning lady comes. LOL

we have a dog.... I only sweep once a week or so to pick up dog hair (she cleans up all the crumbs!).... and mop, pftt..... never. (okay, like once a month). I clean up spills as they happen. Vacuuming is done once a week...ish. whenever the dog hair is piling up on the carpet or couch. haha.

Company is a huge incentive to clean around here.

I mop and vacuum about once a week, sweep 2 or 3 times a week depending on how yucky the floor gets. I love to be barefoot, and I cannot stand to walk across the wood floors and have stuff sticking to the bottom of my feet lol But it never fails that as soon as I mop, someone spills something!

I have carpets everywhere except the kitchen. We have a dog, so I hoover 2 or 3 times a week. As for the kitchen floor - I have a clean freak husband who loves to mop!

this is US-

it wasn't that bad because I had a carer and she would vacuum often (we have carpet in the living room and corridor and wood in the bedrooms, then the bathroom and kitchen are linoleum, not my choice, but we live in a council flat)

... and the occasional visit from the long-haired daughter.

this is quiet a problem for us: our hair.
we both have relatively long hair and it seems like we loose it so much.... I cannot explain you how many hoovers (vacuums) we have changed over the years, we tried upright, chunky, cheap, very expensive ones....they all broke down because of the hait balls that would get stuck after each time with so much hair on the floor....
until we were told by a lady who works in office cleaining to buy something called Henry...we looked into it
and bought his sister: Hetty :)

We have had this one for 4 years now.... (fingers crossed it will continue to be ok!!!)
thing is, these days, I have to BEG Sarita to vacuum...I can't tale the weight of the thing and the effort would sent me into spasm so I can't do it :(

they are endlessly dirty. little bits always stick to my feet, socks, slippers while vacuuming or mopping. AND they hide (they are evil and sneaky) in the cords as you drag the electric steam mop or vacuum around.

seriously the minute after i do either.... i find stuff on the floors. i just do the best i can. and give-up!

Cynthia ... Henry and Hetty are adorable! :heartlub
Kristina - company! it really is the golden ticket to cleaning around here too! :giggle

I could basically say ditto to all of the above, hahaha! We have a Persian, dark wood floors, and I pretty hate sweeping everyday. I would say I mop weekly sometimes a second time if company is coming over. By company, people that may not know me well, otherwise....you get dust bunnies and all! I serve lots of wine and Mimosas so no one pays attention. #truestory
