My friend is an amazing calligrapher. I've admired her Instagram account for awhile now (check out tiajoykim on Instagram to see her work!). Also, all the pretty handlettering fonts I've been downloading make me swoon. She taught a workshop yesterday that I was able to attend. I've never done any watercolor painting before and my handwriting is barely on the side of legible.

But look what I was able to do!

This was after practicing for an hour with the brush and watercolors. And I traced over her original. But aren't those colors and letters gorgeous?? :wub I don't really have time or money to pick up a new hobby but I'm going to try to practice this more!

I feel like this appeals to both sides of my brain. The right side loves the artistic aspect, but the left side enjoys the attention to detail to form the letters. Plus slowing down just to do it was relaxing.

Any hobbies that are tempting you to try?
 
That is gorgeous. I used to practice calligraphy when I was in junior high. I had a cool kit my mom got for me. I still have it, but the ink isn't any good. Also, I got my daughter a kit I saw in Barnes & Noble yesterday. She's 13 1/2. I hope she likes it, and I would love to do it with her, if she'll let me. She's at "that age". Ugh...lol
 
That looks awesome!! I've wanted to give that a try for awhile. I'm always admiring others' Instagram posts, I just haven't made the time to give it a go.

I started knitting a little last year, but life got in the way and I set it aside. If only there were more hours in the day!
 
Oh wow! how pretty and yes, awesome! I have never tried calligraphy before, my sister has done it with inks but I really love the look of the watercolours here! gorgeous job Ruth Ann! I would need to actually find the top of my craft table in order to try this so maybe one day!! :giggle

Mye De Leon is also very much into hand lettering. She used to be one of my fav designers, now I follow her on Facebook and see all her lettering pics. It's awesome!

And this is not a new hobby for me, but I might be turning my mother into a digital scrapbooker soon! She started the paper scrapbooking and she likes to make digital photobooks. Now I'm rebooting my old laptop for her. She wants to try photo editing. So I'm gonna reinstall my CS5 on it and Radlab. And I might add some scrapbooking stuff to it as well, so she can try out this hobby of ours. I'm so excited for it!
 
That is indeed gorgeous Ruth Ann. I love the variation in the colors that the watercolor hand lettering provides. So so pretty! :)
