Mason Jars | 11.30.23

I use them for canning, although I don't can a whole lot - every few years I'll do some pears or concord grapes (for grape juice). Growing up my mom canned every fruit and made lots of jam. My daughter always steals them to store all her arts and crafts supplies

Yep! We use them for lots of things! When I was growing up, those were our drinking glasses. :giggle

Now we use them for:
toothbrush holders
my paint water glass
freezer jam
pencil holders
overnight oats

How's that for a random collection of uses? Ha ha!

I use the ALL the time!
Store fresh fruits (berries etc) in them in the fridge - keeps them fresher longer
all grains and cereals - keeps them fresher longer
storing smaller pastas and rice
My larger ones (gallon) I use to hold ice tea in the fridge & to make Limoncello etc.
I thinly slice red onions one or two times a week and store them in quart jars in the fridge
all different sizes for left over storage
super small one for giving away homemade extracts
crafty supplies
oh and I would to canning jar "ramen" for work - bottom would be bouillon or ramen seasoning of choice, next few layers world be veggies (sturdier veggies would be precooked), then precooked noodles, then top off with any greens. Store in fridge. Time for lunch - just add hot water, shake up, and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes. So yummy!

Yes! I love Mason Jars. There are cool lids you can buy for them from stores that increase their usefulness too.

Homemade pancake syrup - with a pour spout!
Dish Soap - with a soap spout
Foam Soap - with a foam spout
Glasses (For drinking)
Storing foods
Salads (it really does last better!)
Cleaner - with a spray lid
Oil pourer
Canning

They are quite the workhorse, and they last really well!
I didn’t know about the cool lids and spouts so thanks for filling me in!

That’s definitely a random collection of uses! Growing up they were always for canning only in my house.

I’m going to have to try your ramen idea! That sounds delicious!

. . .

Are these lids dishwasher safe, by chance? I am tired of handwashing the metal lids of the mason jars I've been using for so many years of food storage. What would I search for? "Mason jar alternative lids"?

Yes! I have a bunch of mason jar lids and they are multi color and dishwasher safe. I think if you just search "mason jar lids" or mason jar pour lid, etc you'll find exactly the type you want.
