Courage is our 12ish year old rescued cocker spaniel. We confirmed his diagnosis of lymphoma today. He could only have weeks left. It's complicated because he is staying with my MIL while we sort out the details of our move to Texas. We couldn't find a rental to take all 4 cocker kids. We brought 2 and Courage is staying with his "sister" and his "Mishou's" house.
We are going to get an estimate for 2 rounds of chemo and learn about it. We've never considered chemo for a dog but if it's not too hard on him and could buy him 6 months, it might give us time to get our "family" back together in a new house here and live out what's left as normally as possible.
The good news is he feels pretty good so far. I expect it will go downhill quickly with no treatment.
The vet also thinks our 14 year old cat, Zoey, has cancer. She has a mass in her abdomen. I think it will be a rough few months.
UPDATE:
Courage had his bloodwork and x-rays... they didn't see any signs of spreading cancer to any organs, and his bw levels were nearly perfect.
We decided to move ahead with chemo treatment. Has anyone else done this? We are doing the "Wisconsin Protocol" 20 week treatment... aka we are going all out. The cost will be 2500-3300 but we got a care credit card with 6 months no interest and we pay as we go so hopefully we can use cash for a lot of it, if we budget right.
The prognosis for this treatment if he responds could be 9 months to a year. If it works and we do actually get that much longer, then we think we'll be in a house by then and the "family" will be back together.
My hubby is having a HARD time with the move, texts me and calls me literally crying so far, several times yesterday and today. He has a lot of guilt and blames himself... and then moving really complicates everything.
BUT, we have a great vet and a specialist that we can bring him to when he gets to Plano in the next couple of weeks so I am trying to stay hopeful and positive.
I'd love to hear feedback from anyone who has tried chemo on their pet.

Your love for your pets will guide you into making the right decisions for them. I just recently went through this with our 21 year old cat so I know a little bit what you're going through. Hang in there. Glad Courage (aptly named) is feeling well right now.
