As part of the celebration for your 4th birthday, we took you to Day Out With Thomas in Grapevine at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. Thomas the Tank Engine was the lead engine that day! You were so excited to see Thomas! You first sat with me on the train, and then you sat with Daddy. After the train ride, we had to wait to have your picture taken in front of Thomas, so we just walked around and shopped for souvenirs. We ran into Sir Topham Hatt, and you were just a bit nervous around him. Soon it was time to see Thomas up close. Daddy later took a photo of you and me right in front of him on the railroad track.

Roger, this photo of Grandpa was taken in 1949 when he was 21 years old. It’s been years since I first saw it, but I remember and treasure it because it’s one of only two photos that I have of him when he was young. Fast forward to 2018. After Elaine took your senior environmental photos, including this one, I thought about how you look like Grandpa in a few ways. A few weeks after that, I was trying to find some of my college photos. As I was flipping through photos, I did a double-take because I thought I saw your photo in with the old photos I was going through. It was this photo of Grandpa! One of the daughters of Grandma’s cousin saw a photo of you and said it reminded her of Grandpa on his and Grandma’s wedding day. It’s not just me being crazy. The photo of Grandpa is like a glimpse into my future.
