Life Tip | Pad Patter 9.28.17

Luckily I haven't had to experiment with any phones *knocks on wood* but I do remember seeing posts about using rice!

You are lucky! Mine did a double back flip out of my back pocket into the toilet bowl that I just used. I know, I know, but I am a mom. I fished it out, gave it a quick rinse, did the rice and it was okay. My hubby took one down a slide at a water park. It did not survive.

This thread (...and my own post in it lol) made me crave banana bread so I made some today! It made me think of another tip: use a plastic knife (NOT metal) to cut inside metal pans. Saves your metal pans from small nicks that rust. I keep a couple of the kids' old IKEA children's knives for this stuff. Just used it for my yummy bread! Even DH, who is most definitely the Cook of our family, didn't know this. I've got him trained now, but only after he ruined an 8x8 pan!

I didn't know about the plastic knife tip... thanks!

This is one of my biggest fears when I have my phone in my back pocket, because I won't remember it's back there until it's too late!!

That EXACT thing happened with my phone this past year on my birthday. Fished mine out too and after I sanitized it a LOT, it was just fine.

Great tips! I'm going to utilize some of these.

Freeze ripe bananas to save for banana bread.
Put a slice of bread in your donut or cookie tin to keep them moist. (I'm hungry for sweets, can ya tell???)

Use a crayon to "unstick" a zipper: the wax helps the pull to slide.

Apply hair spray to your comb to give specific pieces the amount you want.

Use a dryer sheet on fly away hairs. Save used dryer sheets to clean base boards. (But probably don't use the same sheet on your hair as you use for dusting.)

I've been freezing bananas forever.

This might be one of those things that everyone on the planet already knows but I just learned this recently. If you're driving an unfamiliar car and need gas, you can see which side of the car the gas tank is on by the little directional arrow on the dash. I circled the triangle below showing the tank in this car is on the right. Yay me! LOL :driving

I just learned this about a year ago. And I'll be honest, my hubby usually gets gas and I could never remember what side our gas tank was on in my own vehicle! Whenever I did have to get gas I always guessed & hoped I wouldn't be turning around!

I don't know if I have any life tips to add......

To the Applesauce Boss @lmccandless Sadly that tip of the image of the tank doesn't work with all cars. I have a 2002 VW Golf and my image is on the left and the tank is on the right. After reading this tip elsewhere a couple years ago, I went right out to look. It must have clicked in my mind because now I always do remember where my tank is even if it doesn't match the dashboard image. I wonder if this is because it's a German car and one that I am pretty sure actually was made in Germany.

i am forever reading those 'tip' threads looking for something new! I can't think of any others to add but over the years i have learnt that Bicarb soda, vinegar or lemon juice is the answer to just about everything!! (I read book called Britt Marie was Here recently and apparently Bicarb plus potato rubbed on jewellery is a fab way to clean it! Hadn't heard that one before!) I also had no idea what a 'dryer sheet' was before these threads and didnt even realise they sold them in the shops here; and since doing the 'write the date on stuff you open' i've learnt it takes us about 6-8weeks to go through a box of washing machine powder! I had no idea and was stock piling it before hand!
