What's your favorite life tip? I always see those click bait type articles, and often think the Life Tips are pretty lame. But occasionally, I run into a really good one!

My latest really good one was writing the date on things. Like contact solution. By writing the date on the bottle, I can easily see how quick we go through it, and how many I should have on hand in general.

So, what's your favorite Life Tip lately?

Oh that is a good one!

Speaking of contact solution....and travel... I finally realized I could own more than 1 toothbrush, comb, etc. So I now have a travel bag, all stocked up and read for travel. Just a quick check and a throwing in of a few unique things and I am ready to go. My latest addition?? A corkscrew - cause when you are having a private scrapbook retreat with a friend in a hotel room half-way between your homes and you want some wine, a corkscrew is real handy, especially when there is also 8" of snow on the ground in a Southern State. In case you are wondering, the hotel front desk had them to give out when asked, with their hotel name on them. cool.

Freeze ripe bananas to save for banana bread.
Put a slice of bread in your donut or cookie tin to keep them moist. (I'm hungry for sweets, can ya tell???)

Use a crayon to "unstick" a zipper: the wax helps the pull to slide.

Apply hair spray to your comb to give specific pieces the amount you want.

Use a dryer sheet on fly away hairs. Save used dryer sheets to clean base boards. (But probably don't use the same sheet on your hair as you use for dusting.)

Squeezing my thumb to calm down. Sounds funny, but it really works.

I also apply slight pressure in the center of the palm of my hand with the thumb of the opposite hand and hold for at least one minute to calm my mind when I'm laying in bed trying to go to sleep.

Sara - I freeze my ripe bananas too, but then I forget to make banana bread and end up throwing them away to make room in the freezer. I also like to keep a piece of bread in my brown sugar container to keep it soft.
The crayon on the zipper is new to me, but sounds great. I use baby wipes to clean my baseboards, door knobs and blinds, but dryer sheets would be good too.

@bestcee and @BevG both good ideas. I should label the girls' contact solution and make us some travel bags for us. DH has one because he travels a lot, but it would be good for us girls to have one too.

Speaking of freezing, I learned somewhere that ginger root freezes really well and it's one of those things that is handy to have when you need to come up with dinner on the fly. So, now I keep a ginger root thrown in our freezer all the time.

Oh, and I also label food when we open it or when I freeze it. Those bottles of salsa can sit in the freezer for a week or 8 months and it's hard to know the difference!

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is putting a couple kernels of corn in your salt shaker to keep it from sticking together or something like that LOL

Kayla I do energy work and those 5 finger helps are on the money. I also was taught that the pinkie finger is also the helper for trying too hard. Like for those of us with perfectionist tendencies! It's also connected to the ❤️ Which can suggest why pushing yourself too much is linked to heart attacks or high blood pressure.

My tip is to steam your eggs for hard boiled ones. I think I read this in a Heloise column years ago. Have your eggs at room temp and then put them in the steamer over boiling water, cover and steam for ten minutes. Take them off the heat and run cold water over them or dump a bunch of ice cubes over them or just leave them to cool naturally. No gray ring and NO problem peeling. I used to get eggs from my friend's chickens and they were only slightly less easy if they were just layer. Btw, if you take out an egg or two from the steamer at 5-6ish minutes, you'll have soft boiled eggs for your breakfast!

Another from my mother many years ago. If you still use bar soap, take it out of the paper and put it in an underwear drawer or such for a couple months. It will last much much longer as it is now home made 'French milled' soap. Dried out soap is really good to have with teenage boys I recall who seemed to go thru a bar a week.

We have used rice in salt shakers in the past.

I like freezing coffee in ice cube trays to use for iced coffee. That way it doesn't get watered down as it melts.

This might be one of those things that everyone on the planet already knows but I just learned this recently. If you're driving an unfamiliar car and need gas, you can see which side of the car the gas tank is on by the little directional arrow on the dash. I circled the triangle below showing the tank in this car is on the right. Yay me! LOL :driving

I did NOT know this! It should be included in drivers ed!

I have a silly one. Put a piece of bread hanging out a bit of your mouth when cutting onions. It will soak up the onion fumes that make your eyes tear.

Use a laundry sheet in your pocket or lightly rub on clothes or skin (if it doesn't bother you) to keep bugs away in the evenings when outside. Works for me at the beach too.

When boiling something... place a wooden spoon across the top of the pot. The pot will not overflow.

I've always done it b/c it's what my mom did...wonder if it really works of just an old wives-tale?

Rice (and probably corn too) absorb moisture. So yes, they would work. This is why you can put the phone you took for a swim in dry rice and maybe it will come back.

Luckily I haven't had to experiment with any phones *knocks on wood* but I do remember seeing posts about using rice!
