I am totally late coming around here today because I have spent all day cleaning out my laundry room. It tends to become the catch all when we don't know where to put things and you could barely walk in there. There were boxes piled up in front of the back door and just a lot of crap. I mainly wanted to get all those boxes broken down so that I could get to the back porch and start grilling now that the weather is nicer! But I ended up in there all day, cleaning out every corner and getting rid of about 5 30+gallon trash bags of stuff.

Do you have a room that is a "junk room" at your house?
And bonus points for your favorite grill recipe, cause I need some new ideas :)

Yeah, it is called the basement... all 1408 sq feet of it.

But, it has been cleared out. Took several years to do. Many bags of trash. Many bags of donations. Even had a dumpster.

But now it is cleared out. The paneling and rooms Dad had built in the late 80's have been demolished (thought I had mold but didn't thank goodness) and it is now a wide open basement again. Still have storage down there but it is organized and not just thrown every where.

Some day I will get the layouts done and maybe share them. Have 4 layouts done and more to do since it took awhile to get it done. VERY LARGE PROJECT!!!!

Can't help on the bonus. Don't own a grill.

Definitely our garage. I have a saying that once something goes to the garage (DH), I never see it again. It's too hot most of the time to get out there and tackle it, too. We not only have our stuff, we also have our daughter's stuff. It drives me crazy! I've got another saying "I don't DO garages or basements". We haven't had a basement for years, so now it just applies to the garage.

Well hubby has the garage, anything I deem to be his department lands on the work bench in front of my car.
Everything else gets stored in the upstairs room, the room above the garage, this houses a spare bed, book we don't read, stuff from my Mom's house when we cleared that and toys the children have out grown that I am keeping for the grands when they come along.
It's clean and has loads of storage containers.

Our laundry "room" is more of a pass-through from the garage to main part of the house, so there's not really room for it to accumulate too much of anything. We don't have a basement. The garage, however has been completely full of stuff for a few years now. And the "sitting area" part of our master bedroom has been piled with stuff for at least a decade. And for about the past year, our breakfast area has also become home to a dozen or so boxes that I insisted DH get out of DD's closet so that she could use her own space.

About half of the problem is a magic collection that DH purchased from a friend. He greatly underestimated both the pure volume and the amount of time it would take to deal with it all. I suppose I should try to at least start nibbling at the small part of the mess that is mine, but it's honestly just so overwhelming that it seems impossible.

Kudos to you for tackling your room! No grill suggestions. DH does all of our grilling, but he just sticks to basic meats, nothing actually requiring a recipe. LOL

Our basement looked like a Toys 'R Us after a tornado. I didn't like going down there--it made me nervous to look at all the stuff. But, we cleared it out and donated it all the beginning of this year. I kinda wished that I had some before photos, but oh well. It's gone now, and the basement is an enjoyable space once more.

At the time, my husband wondered why I didn't wait until the weather was warmer with all the trips we made to donation sites, but I got to tell you that I'm glad I got most everything donated before the lock down. Woman's intuition? I still have four boxes of books ready to go, but that can wait.

Our laundry area in our basement is pretty big and has a whole wall of shelves and it gets piled with junk SO fast. My hubby cleaned it all out and organized it again a few months ago and now it's a mess again already. Oh well. Lol

This is sorta a grill recipe... I've made it in the oven and it's amazing!!!

there are a few locations that accumulate junk, or my husband is in the habit of dump things, despite me trying to get him to use the proper place:
  • the first counter we come to in the kitchen
  • the kitchen table
  • the closest sofa seat to the door
  • my desk
  • my youngest's bedroom
A grill in the UK is different to a grill in the USA. We use the grill to make toast or cook bacon, or thin burgers and sausages etc.

Sometimes I wish I had a basement, and then I think nahhh, it would just become more space for junk lol Good for you for getting it all cleared out and organized!!

I don't have a garage or a basement, so I guess that's why the laundry room became the catch-all. I know if I had either it would be full of more crap lol

We have a building out in the back yard that is hubby's spot and if I ask him to deal with stuff and he doesn't, I take it out there and tell him it's not coming back in the house lol. That room above the garage sounds great!

I was feeling pretty overwhelmed with the laundry room as well. It had been that way for quite some time. I don't have a garage or I know it would be the same way!

Yeah, I get it...I totally hated even going in the laundry room...now I just keep walking in there for no reason haha.
Glad you were able to get it done before the lock down. At least you can enjoy the space when you can't go anywhere lol.

Yeah, I feel sure the laundry room will start piling up again soon!
Oooh thanks for the recipe, that looks amazing!!

I don't go in my husband's office very often because he has so much junk and dumps stuff everywhere. My kitchen table becomes a catch-all as well.

My bonus room was our dumping ground that I have "control" over. Here is a page I made about that clean-up.

The garage is a mess but most of that is the hubby's junk (I mean stuff). He also has large multiple piles of stuff in the library where his desktop computer is. Sigh - I just have to walk by with blinders. He was out of work for about 6 months and I had hopes one of them would get cleaned up - didn't happen. He is a bit of a hoarder because someday he might use that empty jar for something. Or that nasty ceiling fan from a rental property.

DD moved home from college and she is supposed to be sorting through stuff to find it a home for the summer. I think some of that empty space in the bonus room is where it is going. At least it won't be in the dining room where it all is now.

So for now, I try to keep the common areas clutter free. Now if I could be more motivated to clean.

Comes in handy during tornado warnings. Got a cable connection so I can keep tuned to local weather. Also, when this house was built, laundry rooms on the main floor of the house was not the norm so the washer/dryer are down there along with the hot water heater and heat pump.

The laundry room has a big folding table and the end of it will get piled with stuff from time to time. That room also has our pantry. Right now, the end of the folding table has a big tray with all baking goods on it so that the tray can be easily taken into the kitchen for when I'm baking (which I seem to be doing a lot of these days).

Right now, there are also a couple of bags of things I'm waiting to send to Goodwill and I'm ready for them to be out from underfoot. I think I may put them in the trunk of my car for now.

Both hubby and I are neat and clean people, so there's not really clutter anywhere around. Even his shed, which will sometimes be a temporary place for stuff, gets straightened regularly.
