I have a brand new planner that I can't wait to start using! It is primarily going to be used as a journal so I have info for when I get around to scrapping those days. However, I can't let myself get started with it until I have the right pens.

So, I need some good pen recommendations. I have tried gel pens and various others that have either smeared because they took FOREVER to dry or bled through the page. I've seen recommendations before on other threads relating to planners, but I thought I would start a thread specifically about the pens (or has there been one already that I've missed?).

Thanks!!

I love
Staedtler Pigment Liner
and they are on a great sale right now at Amazon (linked). they don't smear, and a bi one for me, is 18 hours you can leave top off and it won't dry...I am bad about that at my desk. I have one in my purse and one at my desk. I love the .08 for deep lines for calendars, and use the .02 or .03 for notes. I got the colored ones too..and love them!

I have 2 favorites depending on what I'm doing.
1. Frixion for things like my meal plans because I need the erasableness.
2. American Crafts Precision Pens because they have a great tip ( I have the 0.1/0.3/0.5). I have black, and one in brown. I haven't had them smear on me, and I love how fine they are! And of course, being made by a scrapbooking paper company, they are acid free, blah blah blah.

I've used all of those and like them. I use the zebra a lot and always keep refills on hand.

Pilot g2 gel pens are my favorite.... I've alwys been a fan, but it is almost the only pen I've used in my planner. My BuJo has g2s, ball points, whatever.... But in my planner.... Love love love my pilot g2s. Santa brought me a 12(ish?) color pack.

At a planner meet up in December, i tried inkjoy gel pens, and they weren't bad. Pretty colors. I would use them to journal.... If i couldn't have my g2s. Lol

Others on my to-try-someday list are the staedtler fine point ones and stabilo fineliners (i may be mixing the brands?). I think my Mambi pen is more similar to those, and i like it for finer point writing.... Maybe for doodles or small print? I don't do a lot of that at this moment so trying these brands has fallen on my priority list.

I love, love, love Sharpie pens. They aren't permanent like Sharpies and don't bleed through the page, but they do have the awesome tips that you find on the ultra-fine point Sharpie markers and write soooooo wonderfully!

I need to try some new pens. Love all these suggestions. Right now, I'm addicted to my Pentel Energel Needle tip pens. They are my favorite and I have one everywhere I go.

I use sharpie pens too. I LOVE THEM!!!!!! I still like a bit of a fat tip so instead of fine, I use the medium point. It's perfect and no bleed through.

Thank for the help everyone!! Tomorrow I'm off to Office Depot armed with a list of your suggestions!

For adding color in my planner, I love Paper Mate Flair pens and Staedtler Triplus Fineliners. They don't bleed. I have two sets of the Staedtlers (one on the end table with my Bible and one by my bed). I would like to get another set for my purse...I love them that much! :)

I don't have luck with those America Craft Pens - they always dry out on me. Not a fan. My new planner has thinnish sheets of paper (as opposed to those ultra thick ones I had been used to in my Happy Planner) so I've been noticing the bleed on different pens too. I hear you on not loving the gel pens for doing a lot of writing. I am like that too.
My fave right now is the Staedtler triplus fineliner pens. I have a .3 mm tip - and it writes like a cross between an ultra fine tip smooth marker and a pen. I love the feel. I use the grey color the most bc it is a touch softer than the black one and has no bleed through on my planner sheets.

I have the 20 pack - I got them at Hobby Lobby w/a coupon but Amazon sells them too. Good luck with your pen hunt!

I love the Frixion pens too - but the ones I have feel too thick to write a lot in a small planner. I hate the tip but love the erasability.

Sadly... no Staedtler pens at my Office Depot. Since I wanted to walk out with a pen today, I ended up with a pack of Pentel Energel Needle Tips per @IntenseMagic's suggestion and a 2 pack of Zebras per @Cath_ and @bcgal00's suggestion (although I opted for the F-402 for the finer point). These will get me started and then I'll see if I want to add some Staedtlers to my next Amazon order (is there such a thing as too many pens?).
