I have been using Google Chrome for god knows how long now but am realising very quickly that it might not be working the best for me now. More often than not downloads stop downloading when they are complete but don't show as finished. So I am on the hunt for a new browser potentially....any suggestions?

Chrome works fine for me.
Have you cleared your Cache? Is there plenty of space on your hard drive? Mine starts messing up and slowing down etc if there drive it stores it's temporary files on starts to run low on space.

heaps and heaps of space on my hard drive....think its only about half full from memory. I haven't cleared my cache at all

@littlekiwi I use Chrome and I have the extension added - Online Download Manager. I find this is good for showing the progress of downloads.

oh I can see progress just fine but my issue is as soon as it gets to like 99.9% it stops basically forever and ever so I end up having to cancel it only for it to happen the next time I download as well. I ended up downloading through Microsoft Edge tonight which worked but its not ideal really

I had to stop using Chrome as it was always sucking memory and crashing. Evidently it can have memory leakage at times and I was one it was happening to. I switched to Edge which handles that better. I have noticed that downloads seem to work better for me in Edge than Chrome. The 2 browsers are based on the same platform, it is just how they were built that is the difference.

In a recent article comparing the 2, there is still a big difference in memory usage between the 2. Chrome uses much more RAM than Edge. Their test with 6 pages loaded on 6 tabs showed a usage of 1.4GB on Chrome and 665MB on Edge. Big difference. I'm sticking with Edge.

FWIW, I have Edge set up exactly like I had Chrome set up. So in looking at it, it appears almost identical.

That is interesting, Google Chrome hangs a lot too for me but always thought it might be RAM related so kind of ignored it/put up with it. Might be something I consider looking into further if it doesn’t improve with another 8gb of RAM.

Now I will admit that Edge has crashed as well. But not as often as Chrome did for me. They have added so much bloat to Chrome that it became unstable for me. With my old computer I could have Chrome with 1 or 2 tabs open, Picasa open, 2 Excel spreadsheets and Paint Shop Pro and everything would hum along just fine. I have more memory in this computer but with every Chrome update things got worse. It got to the point that if I wanted to scrap I could not have Chrome open at all and there are many times I would look things up on the internet as I was scrapping. I don't have those issues with Edge. Now certain websites will cause it to crash so I just don't go to those pages.

hi there, I'll be honest MS Edge has been working great for me. I've been on Chrome for years now and I dislike inetrnet explorer so I was skeptical at first, but looks like Microsoft finally got it right with a simple and easy to use web browser. I use it to do downlaods and the plugins + built-in web viewers work great

I still use Google Chrome and don't have any issues. When I'm posting layouts, I'll have PSCC and LR open as well as 12+ tabs in Chrome. The only time I have issues is if my ISP is having an outage or there has been disruptive weather. I've opened Edge a couple of times but I'm so familiar with Chrome that I'm just sticking with it.

Hope you find that with your cache cleared that you can browse easily now!

@gonewiththewind thats the thing, I’m so familiar with Google Chrome I don’t really want to change....my personal email is a gmail account and my secondary University turned professional job hunting email is run through gmail’s interface as well. If clearing my cache sorts it then I’m good to go. Previously even two tabs open had the high potential of not responding so fingers crossed.

@littlekiwi You may want to check what extensions you have running. I know that some people have had issues since Adobe Flash was discontinued in December, but it's still in their browser. I also know some extensions can just get messy and cause issues.

Have only a couple and none were Adobe Flash. It's running much better after I cleared the cache and hopefully after 8 more gigs of RAM get installed in the next week or so, I'll be off running

Edge and Chrome are built on the same platform and it is very simple to get Edge to look like Chrome. Mine does. I also use gmail and have no issues with it either. I can have both open at the same time and can't tell the difference between them as far as the look goes.

I have a couple of extensions that I used with Chrome and now with Edge. I have found that they actually work better in Edge because it isn't as bloated as Chrome.

Hope it all works out for you.

I love Safari and have always used it. Lately though, I've switched to Chrome because of some sites that we go to that Safari doesn't run well.
