Geez you guys were chatty this weekend. Like it was some scrapbooking holiday or something.
The marathon went great! I was GROSSLY under trained for it. IE: I didn't even do a 20 miler in training. To run 26.2. So, I figured I'd run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute, and see how that went. My hope was that from taking short walk breaks from the start, I'd never get that so-tired-I-want-to-die feeling I usually get from miles 18-23 even when I'm well trained. I said if I finished under 5 hours, I'd be downright ecstatic, but that really I'd be happy to finish within the time limit (6 hours).
It went perfectly. Most of the time I didn't want to walk, but I forced myself to anyway. I felt great and wanted to RUN. The course was fantastic with lots of awesome long downhill stretches (I didn't walk those even if it was walk time, no way! lol) and the inclines weren't bad at all, I just timed it so I was walking then.
Best of all, I finished feeling strong and like I had another hour in me at least (so obviously I could have gone faster, who knew). And I finished in 4:46:08, which is only about 5-7 minutes slower than I usually do when I run the whole time and train properly.
Now I'm TOTALLY fired up for my fall race, which is going to be an all-girls weekend to Toronto. Can't wait to start training for it!
Now, what did I miss????
