So i was since excited about march byoc this month! I got up Friday morning and cleaned the house so i could scrap with all the gorgeous new goodies while my son napped! My computer (which has been randomly shutting off for about 2 weeks) was actually co-operating! I was able to get all sorts of new scrapping goods downloaded just in time for my computer to crash. Ugh. Will.not.turn.back.on. :( thankfully we had backed up most of my stuff already! But man talk about teasing me! Now all i can think about is digital scrapbooking!

So here leads me to ask, mac or pc? I had a macbook but my husband says we change a pc that does exactly the same stuff as a mac for half the price! I really want another mac, but ultimately told him whatever computer he could get me quicker would do! Ha ha! (its stressing me out that im now a week behind on project life! :/ ) so....what do you use? And while we're at it, what photo software do you use? I was using photoshop cs4 before my computer died :(

Anyway id love to hear your opinions and advice if you've got any for me! :)

I switched from a Mac to a Dell and I've been perfectly happy with it. The biggest downside is that I had to re-buy almost all my software since everything I had (including the high dollar CS and Lightroom) were all for Mac. So that's another cost you need to look into - how much will it cost you when you figure in the cost of getting several new copies of software you already have.

Oh and I use CS3, have been on and off since it came out.

My husband owns/runs a very successful computer consulting company. What he says is that unless you are in business in an industry that really pushes mac (some digital arts, music) then you're just basically spending twice the $ just for the name. Especially since Windows 7 came out, which is much more user friendly than previous versions.

So there you have it, for whatever it's worth! LOL. I'm on PC and have no desire to change!

Sorry about your laptop! Hope you can get something new soon...

I've got a PC and I really love it... but I should say I've never used a Mac. I also use PSE and have never tried the full version of photoshop. I've always been happy with PSE and have never felt the need to upgrade.

I scrap on a Mac desktop, and love it, but for work I bought a Windows laptop since it was way cheaper, and I do have Photoshop there so I can scrap if I'm on a trip.

aww man ! that is terrible :[ I'm sorry.

I have a dell lappy and am very happy with it (aside from some dinky charger cord issues, but that's unrelated :p ) My geeky bf makes fun of me for getting a Dell.. but he's pro PC too either way :] Like has been said in this thread.. well mac's are twice the $$ for what... :p

I love my Mac and wouldn't switch back to a PC if you paid me. We had so many issues with a PC; the popups, the lockups, the VIRUS software (ugh!!). And yes, you may be paying half for what you would on a MAC, but in the long run- you'll probably be buying yet another PC when you could have just stuck with the MAC and updated the software (you pay for what you get). We LOVE our iMacs (both my husband and I have one) and Macbook Pro! It takes about 3-4 weeks to get used to it (maybe sooner if you're a fast learner). Once you go MAC you never go back! :giggle Just my two cents :p

I went MAC and I went back very quickly LOL!! I have never had the problems with PC that people always talk about though so I can't judge there. Mine have always run great. I have been using PC's for 11 years and have yet to have a virus problem with them. My virus software has always been great and works great but I also don't surf the web that much either. I have a list of sites and places I visit and I don't deviate from it to much so maybe that's my luck, IDK. I work on a Dell touchscreen right now and I have had it for about 3 years, I think and it still runs as perfect as it did the day I got it. I am also using CS3 but would love to upgrade to CS5.

i've always been a pc girl. i've used mac's. just didn't get what all the fuss was about. (sorry mac girls, don't hate). i've never really had any issues with my pc's other than when hardware has given out from use over time (such as cooling fans, battery packs, etc. but i woudl imagine that's not specific to pc's.)

sorry about your laptop, thouh. that is NO fun. hope you get something that works for you soon.

I don't think PC's are bad but the Windows platform I am not in love with I prefer Apple's a million times over. We are all MAC here with the exception of my oldest son's netbook.

ditto. i love my mac and macbook to pieces. No virus's, love the small details and ease of how to manage software and files, LOVE the software, LOVE the no wire crap....geez i could go on and on....OH and i've upgraded my computer's inners a few times now and its been super easy and painless!

The reason why Mac's don't seem to have viruses (the myth that they don't is completely untrue - there are tons of mac viruses out there) is because so FEW PEOPLE use macs that there's not really much of a point for the virus creators to target macs. Their goals are to hit as many people as possible. That being said, if your PC is set up properly, you shouldn't have any issues. I've had my computer for about 5 years now and haven't gotten a single virus. My antivirus catches them all. And while I can't argue that the mac OS was so much more user friendly than windows XP or Vista were, I don't think it's all that much better than Windows 7 is now. You could buy a MUCH much better machine with more ram/storage, plus PhotoShop for the same price you'd pay for a basic Mac!

Ultimately, it's just totally personal preference. I've messed around on some friends' Macs and I just don't see the draw. But I know so many people who say how much they love them. I just don't get it. LOL

And while it may not be an issue for most of us here, in the business world it can be a very real issue to work with Mac in a predominantly PC environment (which most work environments are). Special compatibility software has to purchased (and it doesn't always work), etc. etc. It's a HUGE pain (speaking from experience here).

I got FIVE viruses on my Mac. Yup. FIVE. Completely destroyed it.

I use a MacBook Pro and I love it. I had only used a PC before I got married, but my husband was an avid Mac fan and so that is how I got on the Mac bandwagon. It is kind of like the Nikon vs. Canon discussion in my opinion. Whichever one you have is the one you are passionate about! :)

I love my Mac though and couldn't see going back to PC.

we're a PC family... my hubby is a computer tech guy so he's really good at maintenance and fixing things up when they are a problem... but I know that customer service for PCs are pretty crummy... Mac definitely wins in the customer service department, but that's not something we have to worry about... I used to use a Mac when I was in real estate... I never really understood the difference, and why the debate, other than the customer service LOL... I'm just thankful for a PC smart hubby, so we don't have to deal with customer service issues...

anyways... I would take into account the cost of having to buy all new software... it might negate the savings.

Yep... this is something my hubby always talks about... and the more popular Macs get the more will be written and then you'll start seeing the issue as much as PCs, but because PCs are what the majority own, that's what viruses are written for...

and yep, I don't see the draw either :p

Since my boss will fix any computer problem for free I have a PC. He knows nothing about Macs. He's upgraded my memory and a whole bunch of other things for me and keeps my backups running like clockwork.

Macs sure are pretty though!

I've always been a Mac girl but not a Mac snob. I agree with everything Beth said above. Pretty much any new computer you get is going to be dazzling. Sorry to hear about your laptop-- what a hassle.

i love macs too. I have never owned a pc and thats all my husband swears by. we already have photoshop for mac so we would have to buy it for pc if we get a pc. ugh. I am trying to convince my husband I NEED a macbook pro ASAP! They are just SOOOOOO pretty!! :) ha ha. It is killing me not being able to scrap! THat was my therapy!!! and to make matters worse....he is going out of town for a school for the enitre month of april. how bored will i be without scrapping!! AND i purchased two groupons from shutterfly for photobooks that need to be used by may 14. I was so hoping to finish my sons 1st year and his little birthday book! no way is that going to happen! hmmph! :'( i guess the only good thing about him going to school is he said he would buy me a computer when he gets back!

but now i am back at square one! do i get a mac or a pc!! It seems like its pretty even pc and mac here. So lets take a poll! What do you guys think I should get? MAC or PC???
