oh I feel so out of it! But I know I need to push it thru, because I am such a lover of extractions and masking...but it is hard (said in the worst whine ever)

any tips, tricks or favorite video links?

Here's how I made the switch from mouse to tablet: I accidentally spilled soda all over my mouse pad (it really was an accident) and I had no choice but to use my tablet until it dried out. Seriously, that was all it took. So, just put your mouse away and keep it out of reach until you get used to the tablet. Trust me, you'll never look back again. :)

I also find it helpful to place the tablet directly in front of the computer when you first start (as opposed to off to the side).

oh Judie! Thank you! I have it right in front...I have two screens too..and having it in front is where I think I need too! I am gonna turn off my mouse and put it away..eep!

I have dual screens too, but I tend to use one as the focal screen so I put the tablet in front of it, with the keyboard in front of the tablet. I tried putting the keyboard directly in front of me with the tablet to the right side, but I found it harder to control that way.

Good luck!

Exciting! I have one, but I don't use it much -- primarily because of space.

Because I learned to use my tablet when I scrapped on a laptop, I learned with it off to my right hand side. When I switched to desktop, I tried with it right in front but it felt wrong. So my keyboard is in front and my tablet is off to the right.

@AnneofAlamo Anne, please let me know how it goes! I have a Bamboo and my plan is to use it more often once I get a desktop. (I've used it like once. #naughty)
I have a bamboo also and haven't used it. I need to start. I got it to create/draw some cut files for my Cameo and then I just didn't do anything with it!

well, I just made a page...I watched these videos:
and there is also a part two
Aaron Nace of Phlearn (whom I love from CreaTiveLIVE)
and I need my mouse to surf...lol I put it in a drawer and was so frustrated without my wheel. but for brush work...pure fabulous fun.
I learned a lot in the tutorials in how to use the brushes, and having the pen for it...pure bliss!

I can see how I would use it more in the future..but I love my mouse and the mouse pad, has the most comfy pillow for my wrist!

I LOVE my Wacom and used one for around 5 years now........ I have it sitting to the right of me and my keyboard in front. You can set the buttons to do a right click Anne........ just play around until you are happy with what suits you :) I used to use the mouse at work and pen at home, but now that I am retired I guess I will be mouse-less :)

My tablet is in my lap because desks are for people with space. I agree with Judie - put the mouse AWAY and you will get there in no time! :)

If you are going to write with it or draw you need to enlarge your space to huge... this will help with the hand to eye coordination. I used it for drawing .. have not used mine for a while.

I have had a bamboo for a year and I think I've used it twice. I couldn't get the hang of it so I gave up. Old mouse habits die hard I guess. Anne post a link to all those videos. Maybe I can try again.

My hubby recently bought a Wacom Tablet for his course in game design. He absolutely loves it. I might have to steal it and have a go, hehehe!
Anne, I love your page! Well done!

I've had a Wacom Bamboo for many years and bought a new Wacom Intuos last year. I can't scrap without it.
My Bamboo was a pen + touch one, my Intuos has only a pen because I never used the touch option. I actually use it for everything. I have a laptop so it has a trackpad, and I do use that for when I'm typing and I need to move the cursor just slightly, but for everything else I always have my pen in hand. Browsing, scrapping, whatever. I never get a mouse-hand or whatever you call it.
I can't remember it being awkward or difficult in the beginning but that might be because it was long ago. You should really get all the functions work the way you like them to. That takes some time though. Oh and there is a click-thingy on my pen. Click forward is left click and click backwards is left click. Easy peasy. Plus there are buttons on the pad? I never use those though.
Oh and I have it on the right of my laptop, at an angle. I cannot work with it if it's straight.

Don't give up on it! You will so love it after a bit!

Does it make sense to use it with a laptop? Can anyone tell me what the benefits of switching are? Curiosity. I've previously thought to get one, and then never did. I'm wondering if it is useful now. I scrap on a laptop, but with a lap "board" thing underneath... it has a mouse pull out on the side.

Oh @AnneofAlamo , I love my Wacom tablet!!! I've had my bamboo for over 9 years and still going strong! I actually took a course through Jessica Sprague to learn how to use it (and actually went through videos on the Wacom site. It has totally changed how I edit photos (as a photographer) and how I scrap. :) Have fun! You'll love it!

I have one for my laptop and one for my desktop. It just makes everything more precise (like when you're playing with shadows, layers... and journaling!). Depending on the model, you can personalize buttons and functions. It's a real time saver when you're doing the same thing over and over again (automation).
