About two weeks ago I was contacted by the Career Centre manager at the local Dress For Success just to let me know she had something for me as I wasn’t able to attend the last meeting. During my email to her a few days earlier I had mentioned I had secured a job interview so during our phone call she asked if I had been to an interview dressing appointment, I said no and she asked if I was interested and I said yes. She outlined the referral process and my dressing appointment was today. The usual thing is an hour with a volunteer dresser/stylist and you come out with a complete interview outfit including shoes, jewellery, handbag and makeup. I was thrilled with this idea but thought being short and plus sized the chances of a full outfit might not be great. I was the only client in the showroom so had 2-4 people helping find stuff which was a bonus. I probably tried on or considered 30 items in 90 mins. I ended up walking out of the showroom with a coat, cropped jacket, a tunic length top, 2 more tops, 2 over blouse type tops, 3 pairs of shoes, a designer handbag, two necklaces and makeup all for FREE! The shoes and handbag alone were worth roughly $1100 so I figure I probably got $3000 worth of stuff today. If I am successful with a job I’ll be eligible for another session to get more clothes within 6 months of starting a job.
I'm glad it all worked out! Perfect for Cheryl's SOSN today! https://the-lilypad.com/store/Shop-Til-You-Drop-Dressed-Up-Digital-Scrapbook-Template.html
@jesskab you know what I didn’t take any photos at all but I’ll be there at the end of the month so will try to remember then.
@littlekiwi I'm glad it all worked out for you just the same. There's nothing like good retail therapy & looking/feeling like a million bucks.
woah! sounds like you had a blast and came out with a whole new designer wardrobe for free! win, win, WIN! Glad you have had something good happen for you and i hope this helps with the next interview!
So cool! Good luck with your interview too. You can still scrap about it, even with no photos, or take a photo right before going to the interview. It's such a great thing to remember. And you've already done the journaling, which is always the hardest part for me!
True, I didn’t think about that I’d practically written the journaling by writing the post. I’m not sure what I’ll wear on the day to be honest - I already had a few choices but this has added 4 or 5 new outfits to the mix.
Oh cool! Sounds like it was a fun time looking through all the clothes and you have a few options for interviews, which is nice!
Wow! That is such a cool program and how awesome that you were able to get so many new items and all for free!
it was super fun - I joked with a friend of mine that I was going to play dress up for an hour or so to which she laughed out loud.
That is fantastic Jennifer! What a haul!! I do hope you scrap this experience too! That is awesome. I am keeping myfingers crossed for you for Monday that your interview will go well!! Go get'um girl!! Fantastic so glad you had a fun an positive day and you came out of your dress for success Career day looking like a million bucks!
Normally it would have only been the one outfit but they basically said everything looked great on me and the boss isn't here and neither are any other clients so I was like I'm fine with that.
I would go with one of the new outfits.. for me I always am happy ad positive wearing new digs especially for the interview ... it is a fresh beginning
I will scrap it, just got to figure out how I'm going to scrap it and what I need/want to buy to scrap it (notice need came before want )
Ha Ha Sounds great Jennifer. I will say I enjoyed reading your post and as you said before, you already have your journaling done!!!
Think it will probably be one of the new outfits as I really want to wear the bright royal blue shoes that I got (they are from France and feel like slippers on my feet), just have to figure out what I am going to do for pants or skirt as they didn't have many options but I have 3 days to figure it out.
