Hunger game trilogy

Okay, I have now finished Catching Fire and am dying to get my hands on Mockingjay, but it is looking like a week or two before my turn comes up at the library! The good news is that I can now get some work done and get back to scrapping!

Definitely read it first Darcy - there is a lot of violence for a 10-year-old imho. But that's because I don't remember what a 10-year-old is like! :)

I read the first one while I was staying at the hospital with my 4 year old who got his tonsils out. I couldn't put it down! :)

I just finished "catching fire" and I will admit that I checked the last page of "mocking jay" to make sure there wasn't an "end book 3" there... :)

So far I am loving these books! They rank up there with the Potter series and completely blow Twilight out of the water for me any way...

I've read them all and loved them! Read them within 3 days. Not sure how I feel about the ending in book three "Mockingjay" Will be re-reading them! I even got hubby intrigued and he's going to read them.

I went into a bookstore last week in Mainz and they had one copy of The Hunger Games in english so I took it as a sign and bought it. I am loving it! I am already hooked and might have to have my sister bring me the others when she comes next month.

I finished reading them this weekend. I really enjoyed them, but like a lot of book series...I get so sad when they are done! I wasn't super happy with the ending, but over all a very good series!

Loved them!!!
I don't remember why I grabbed the first book but like so many people said, I could not put it down. I was amazed by it, consumed (so to speak). Right after I read the first, I had to get the second. I read them both in a matter of a few days.

When Mockingjay first came out, I saw a lot of people write on GoodReads.com that they were disappointed but I didn't read the whole reviews to find out why. I felt that Book 2 was not as good as 1, especially with the way it ended. Not saying what happened tho ;)

I ended up rereading Book 1 and listened to book 2 on tape before I got book 3. I can be anal that way haha. I did that with all 6 of the HP books before I read book 7. I think that made a big difference b/c I really liked Book 3. I think everything was so fresh in my mind. Book 3 is definitely not a "stand alone" book. So if you don't remember Book 2 very clearly, I would say reread them.

DS read book 1 for a book report in 8th grade. DH listened to both books on tape and both of my guys, both non-readers- really enjoyed them.

I'd say go for it!

im now on book 3 and i have to admit im struggling to carry on,its only thats its part of the set thats keeping me going,im hoping it gets better cause at the moment i am a little dissapointed

This thread got me curious about the books so I downloaded the Hunger Games audiobook to listen to in my car on the way to work. My commute is about an hour so I've been hooked on audiobooks lately. Let me just say that I'm finding myself taking my time to drive around so that I can listen longer LOL!

I also started reading the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo at Home and I can't put that down either. I think I've gone insane! LOL!

Loved the Hunger Games set. My sister, a middle-school librarian in TX, gave the first 2 to my DS for his birthday in April (he turned 14). He read right through them and really enjoyed them. I bought Mockingjay for him when it came out this summer since he mentioned several times that he wanted it.

I finally read them myself this summer and though I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy them based on Bryce's description of the storyline to me, it didn't take me long to get into it at all. I agree the first book was the best, but overall I think the three books work well together as a whole. I think they show that war and revolution is not all fun and games and that there is a personal price that people have to pay with them- very good lessons for our video game obsessed culture where violence and death don't really mean anything. I don't think this series would be appropriate for most younger children, especially if they are sensitive to violence. If you have a younger child who wants to read them, then I would certainly suggest a parent read book #1 (Hunger Games) first and make the decision was to whether the child could handle it. The first book sets the tone for the series so if they can read that one then they should be able to read the whole series.

good to hear you liked it too, Robin! I have some other new series I found recently I will have to email you about :D

I'm definitely going to have to check out Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!

I really like Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and am now onto Girl That Played With Fire. Again, a slow start on that one, but it's definitely picking up.

No dont email let us all know we love a good recomendation

I just finished the first book and I really liked it, but I have been hesitant to order the second one. It just seemed like at the end of the first one they were headed for angsty teenage drama and that's not really my thing. LOL
But I am reconsidering since so many of you liked the second book. I guess I need to give that a try probably.

i'm in the middle of the third book right now - i'm reading it a bit slower than the first two (i finished each of those in a day - LOL) - so far i've liked all three ... although three a bit less than the first two b/c i really loved when the kids were in the arena (is that wrong!?! LOL)

oh - and i read all three of the girl with the dragon tattoo books this summer - really liked them all ... maybe #2 was my favorite?
