...do you spent- average- on books?

do you buy full price books?
paper backs? hard covers?
Kindle/ e-Readers only?

do you (like me LOL) have a huge amount of books in your Kindle you still haven't read but keep downloading books?

I saw something yesterday, a book by Dana Stabenow whom I really like, for £1 instead of her usual average of £6, so I got it...

Sarita bought me 3 books for my birthday, she knows I prefer paper backs because the hard covers, even though they look nice, is too heavy for my hands... (I have a number of conditions that means weight= instant pain)
but the one the guy recommended only w`s available in hard cover so she bought it anyway, am reading it in bits of 15 minutes no longer, need to leave at least an hour in between, so I'm reading that to go sleep right now...

If you have any tips on how to find good Kindle free stuff, I would be very grateful!!! I used to be around Good Reads a lot so I knew how to... not so much now...

love reading and hence love books. I've switched entirely electronic books but tend to read about three novels a week. As you can guess even at $10.00 USD a pop (if you can find that price) I was spending a lot.

I signed up here: https://www.bookbub.com/home/

and now get a daily email with free or almost free books. Some are not that great, but there are some real gems too, and you can pick which genre you are interested in. I now only buy a select few which I really want at full price - and have a great supply on my ipad for those wait times... - like airports, doctors offices, etc.

Now I spend all my spare cash at the Lilypad... :thumbsups

I also use Bookbub for free/almost free books. Here in US, amazon prime offers unlimited Kindle books for borrowing, like a library. Most of my local libraries participate in e-book lending, too. I've borrowed many books this way too. It's been awhile though.

If I am in need of books, I check out the free ones, and also ask around, sometimes I can borrow them. :)

I'm almost exclusively e-books now. I really like that I can carry my entire library on one little device. 95% of my books are library books, but I'll grab something I really want on Amazon if the library doesn't have it.

Okay, ready for my novel? Get it ... novel? Har har!!

I am a HUGE fan of the library. I'm torn on books v. e-readers. I do love to hold a book. It's so easy to flip forward and backwards to reread a section. I have a Nook and I do like reading with it when I'm laying down. Way better than trying to read the crease.

If I do buy books, I usually head first to the used book store or I will check the Friends' of the Library book store. That said, I have an amazing little local bookstore in my town. This is my usual routine.
-get book assignment from book club
-go to the 2 libraries' websites and see if they have audio versions. Reserve/check out
-check the e-book versions
-check the regular catalog from my computer or phone. This is honestly my 3rd check because I'm terrible about returning books on time. I always end up paying. Thank goodness the library caps it at $5 a book though.
-ask the "club" if anyone is finished. Usually not because we suck at finishing the book and the one lady who is already done has already loaned out the book. Or has it on her Kindle.
-cruise by the used book store and check there. (It's right next to Weight Watchers so I kill 2 birds with one stone)
-Call Rakestraw (my bookstore) and ask Michael (owner) if he has the book. If he doesn't have it, he orders it for me and calls me when it's in. Never more than a week. Usually it's just a couple days. I loathe hard back books. Heavy and super expensive. So I end up paying that $13-15 trade paperback rate. Michael entertains me. He always shares something that he thinks is cool and gets so geeky excited and starts reading part of the book to me. Sometimes it's a little awkward, but people's quirks are cool and I never would have that experience in Barnes and Noble or Amazon.

I very rarely buy books anymore. I used to stock up on paperbacks at the annual used book sale at my library, but I don't even do that anymore except for books for the kids because I'm reading 99% ebooks these days. Most of them I just borrow from the library. They have so many books that even if they don't have the newest book right away, I'm still catching up on reading the new books from 3 years ago. :giggle Once in awhile if I see a book that I want to read go on sale for $1.99, I'll go ahead and buy it, but otherwise I just wait for it to come to the library.

Tooo much !
LOL no not really I help in a charity bookstore ( In aid of a Animal clinic for strays ) and get quite a few from there, we sell them between 1 to 2 Euros each.
Like most people here I use bookbub and find some good bargains there, even though some of the free books are really badly written, you find some good stuff in between.
But and here it comes, I also seem to have a magnet in my ....uhm.....posterior that draws me into every single book store I meet on my way , and I quite often get tempted to buy, I am not good at waiting if I see some of my favourite author's have a new book out, so to answer your question, I spend a fair bit, but I refuse to answer the question of how much because it might incriminate me .....

I get my books from the library ebooks site, if there's not a digital copy then I'll pick up the book at the-library. I rarely buy books unless I can't find at the library and really want to read it.

I don't have nearly enough time for all the books on my to read list, but I borrow many books with Amazon Prime and Kindle.

PS - for anyone that is interested... Amazon is going to be offering their annual Prime membership for $67, this Friday only!!
Of course there is the trial membership too!

I was spending way too much. Between books, art supplies and TLP, I was flat broke. :giggle I read really fast, so it doesn't make much sense for me to buy books unless they are on sale because it can add up to a scary number pretty quickly. Now I might average $10 a month on books. I am an Amazon Prime member, so we get a free book every month. They usually give you four to choose from, and most of the time, there are at least two that sound interesting. My daughter also has a Prime account, so we agree on which books we'll buy and swap later. I just bought a couple of writing books for my kindle (this week) and a couple of artsy-type books that don't translate well to e-book. Some books I have had to buy because I needed them for school or didn't want to wait. Or they don't have them in the libraries. But lately, I've been using the libraries like a pro. I have the county and city library cards, and both of them also have e-libraries, so I stock my lists. Like Cynthia, I have pain and fatigue issues, so e-books are handy, but I will get hard cover books from the library. But the big fat Stephen King books (Under the Dome, It, etc.) I have to read on my kindle now because I just can't hang on to them for any length of time. I feel so wimpy sometimes. But it is also far more convenient when you are traveling or waiting in an office or whatnot. I also had to get a new Kindle (Jessica got it for me for Mother's Day) because mine was old, and I'd actually worn out the page turning button. :giggle

LOL I think we all do!!!!!!!! I got a present from a friend of mine who isn't even a scrapper...she PayPaled me some money, and the card she sent me said: for renewing of you art journal thing, there, at the pond LOL
thanks for the link!!!!! I'll get registered there

I got some amazing reads (well, if you like that kind of stuff, in the beginning I wasn't so sure, but the guy is a clever writer) from a writer called John Locke , weird mystery stuff but I paid 70 pence per book...
I guess with this is a bit like with scrapbooking, in the beginning I downloaded all freebies, now, I know who I love and what I would pay for ....but sometimes with no0 money, I kinda go for the cheap stuff...some of them are good finds :)

you know I should find out if our libraries are lending e books too... I know we have HUGE problem to keep some locals open, as there is no money in the local government and the people in charge obviously don't think reading is important, but I know ours still up and running, but last time I looked there wasn't ebooks lending....
To me, I don't pay anything for borrowing (actual books) but if you pass the time to give back, the fines were killing me...that's why I stopped borrowing... I ll check with the library.

I have Amazon Instant Video, Prime isn't a good deal for us as I rarely buy anything, sp is quiet a lot of money, but again, I need to re organize my priorities.....
our local library is in the house where John Keats lived for quiet a while...I used to go there just to look at the place, read there....amazing places around here... I wish I could get out a bit more....

If I am in need of books, I check out the free ones, and also ask around, sometimes I can borrow them. :)

Jen, I have been like that for quiet a while...or just sometimes, if an amazing offer came through, bought it..... I just registered with the link Lindzzee gave us, hope to find something cool (and free LOL)

same here.... on the going ebooks.
when eReaders first came out , I , like the old bag lady I am :giggle complained about them, said NEVER!!!! ... a few months later we were going to Turkey, invited by one of Sarita's best friends family.... 2 weeks. So imagine, two weeks without computer will work for me more or less 15 books.....

and the luggage allowance was only 15 kilos, we paid am extra 10 each so we could have another 10 kilos but that was for out normal stuff, no way I could get 15 books on top....
Someone told me a loyalty card I have, very famous here in the UK called Nectar, would allow me to go , swipe the card and pay nothing for my Kindle, as I had lots of points....
so I got it..... the relief of not having to carry so much around... and like Lindzee pointed out, for us who do lots of waiting around doctors and airports....
LOVe love LOVE my Kindle!!!!

ohhh I hear you!!!!! I used to go to jumble sales, garage sales and here we have what we call charity shops (your thrift stores?) and I would buy for as little as 20 pence!!!!, as I mentioned to the girls above, I also ended up paying so much in fines to the library.... at some point IO decided not to borrow anymore :(
I do love the actual book, but the interaction with the book store, also the feel of the paper and also,
you are SO right!!!!!! in pap[er is easier to go back check something..... at least for people like me who don't know short cuts to go back to the page you were in LOL
I don't go out much these days, but I really need to check if my local lends ebooks....

well, I have to admit, I am the same!!! (on reading books from even longer than 3 years ago!!!! LOL) thing with me is: Amazon sends these offers via email... I get tempted if a book is 39 pence...buy it to read later LOL
Now am almost finished with the first I'm reading from Sarita's presents.....
but now Julie helped me to get my Kindle to work functionally, I think I maybe reading more and faster.... my 3 passions: scrapping ALWAYS come s first, then reading, then the series I can watch, TV, Netflix, Amazon....

:rofl:rofl:rofl

well, I am the same with my spending at the store here!!!!!
I haven't been able to spend any money , like substantial amounts this year on anything, as with all the medical expenses....well, that is a priority...but scrapping and books are my thing.
I love music, but haven't paid for any music since 2008 , when I bought the Wicked CD during the interval first time we watched it....

love that you volunteer at a charity shop...love the place too, I saw photos in your LO, gorgeous place!!!!
I ll get it together to go visit you one day... my brother in law is half Maltese....

I get my books from the library ebooks site, if there's not a digital copy then I'll pick up the book at the-library. I rarely buy books unless I can't find at the library and really want to read it.

you are in the USA, right Maribel? do you guys have to pay to access books from the local libraries?
funny thing with me is, because of budgets, unless I see them at the library, I hardly ever read new authors or new books.....
always catching up, like with everything else LOL is the age!!!!!

I don't have nearly enough time for all the books on my to read list, but I borrow many books with Amazon Prime and Kindle.

do you guys not have the option to get only the Amazon Instant Video? or is that a good deal for you? do you buy a lot from Amazon?
I need to find out if there is something similar here...
