So my decision flow looks similar to this: How many photos do I have? What's their orientation(s)? (Vertical/horizontal, can my photo be square or shaped differently?) Do I need a lot of journaling room or no? Do I want a blendy/artsy template or not? White space or not? Lots of papers/layers, or no? My templates have been organized by the number of photo spots already, so I've got to figure out which is the next most common question I ask, or else start tagging all those templates.
I've got 9,231 items in my Scrapping with Liz folder. About half of those are preview images of each template. So that takes it down to 4616. Let's say 20% of those are the folder itself and the product preview (I usually delete any "extra" files). So that makes about 3700 Scrapping with Liz templates. (Hers are the only templates I've copied over to my new computer!)
Ok, comparing to everyone else's numbers I'm wondering if my estimate is too big ... but I have been on Liz's team for about ... more than 6 years!
I usually use the store as my way of browsing through my templates! Since I'm on Liz's team, then at least I know I'm using one that is also still for sale. I'm generally looking for something that has about the number of photos that I want to scrap, and just an overall look that appeals to me at the moment.
I'd say I have over 1000, probably a lot over!! I CT'd for 3 template designers at one point and for a long time. I hoard them and love them all. They are all different styles, so I know who I want to go to depending on the number of photos and whether I want the page to be fuller or more minimal. The kit I'm using also helps me decide which template to use, depending on style, elements, etc.
I do photo spots, then I have 3 other tags I use: Large photo. Any template that has a photo spot more than 1/4 of the page. I know that when I scrap I sometimes want the emphasis on the photo. Journaling. Any template that has a lot of room for the story. Blending. Because I cheat on my blending quite often and drag template blends onto my layouts. technically, this also sorts out my more artsy templates. While I can modify templates to fit horizontal or vertical easily, or add journaling, I find that those are the things that are best for me to not modify. If I'm looking for white space, I tend to know which designers are more that style. I have added the odd tag like washi or viewfinder or summer for templates that the name doesn't reflect that element, but overall I keep it simple for me.
Another self-professed template junkie here! I am pretty sure I had all of Amy Martin's because I was on her team from almost day 1. I was also on Janet Phillips team back in the day, so I have SO MANY of hers too! Now I am collecting Liz's, Cheryl's, and I LOVE Just Jaimee's. I have no clue how I would even count them because I organize them under their own designer's folder (which usually has other stuff!). I did a quick search by typing in "Template" in my search box of my digi supplies, and it came up with 1,164. And in my downloads folder (which is stuff I haven't moved over to my EHD yet), it came up with 1,162. Still not an accurate number because it is pulling anything with that in it's title. If I had to guess I probably have roughly 1,000 or so to choose from!
Somewhere around 2,200. Of those, only about 1,300 do I consider using on a regular basis. I have mine sorted by designer, so the first decision I make is about the style and/or the number of photos I want to use. Some designers have great ones for lots of photos but their 1 or 2 photo ones are not too good. Then I use number of photos, orientation, etc. I almost always use templates.
I usually work with the newest releases from Fiddle dee dee. I'm on her team and have tons of her templates. Then, I work with the newest ones I've purchased or need to use for challenges. When I'm looking for something specfic I usually scroll through my template previews or the store. Each template designer has a signature style so I'll gravitate to various ones depending on the style I want. Cheryl's fiddledeedee templates are great for masterful clustering and misting/paint. Liz's are great for multi photos, big photos, or more grid like / project life type layouts; and Lynn G's are great for brushwork, blending and masking. Of course these designers overlap in some areas but their dominant style is where I start when looking for a specific look.
I thought I had a lot when I went through and reacquainted myself with my stash a few months ago! But clearly I'm in the minor leagues, as I only have about 500. I love templates and bought a lot a long time ago, but I've resisted buying more because I can't convince myself that I really need that many templates anyway. But I love freebies!
I have only gotten into templates in the past year - am totally addicted now but my count would still be well below 200 - ask me in a year!!
I'm not sure I want to know exactly how many templates I have, but I'm also sure I can always use more! I love Cheryl's and Liz's, and I have all of Amy's from before she retired. And Heather's are awesome, too, when she does them! Oh, and I can't forget Jaimee's, especially those awesome sketched templates!
WOW. I am impressed. I only started using templates last year, unless it was a template challenge of course, but I must say those template challenges got me going. I have an embarrassingly small number next to you guys. So I'll just say how much I enjoy the ones I have.
LOVE templates! I don't even know if I can being to count mine. I need to go get my external hard drives....but I don't want to get off this couch I just sat down on.
Being a template designer, it's safe to say you have a lot How do you choose which one to use when you're scrapping?
Templates were the first things I bought back in 2008. I think I have almost all of Ali Edwards. They taught me how to scrap! I counted in Lightroom and it's 1500+. Most of those are from 4 designers and as they aren't from TLP I haven't used them this year. Since I never scrapped from sketches, I have a hard time with templates that are just 3 dimensional sketches. I started to tag them by the number of photo spots and then realized that I usually changed things around and didn't use the precise # of photos that the template showed unless it was a real grid style that would look wonky otherwise. So they're tagged 'single photo' or 'multi photo'. I also have tagged them by size if NOT 12x12 i.e. 6x8 or 6x12 or 4x6. Also are blendables which are my go-to for albums.
I started collecting Liz's templates back when she gave them away on her blog in the beginning! Just between Liz and Cheryl I have almost 1200 templates. I didn't even bother to look at the ones archived on an EHD that I don't use anymore.
I have no idea. So many of Liz's and think I can find one with paper's not touching? I guess never enough.
